Doch Saarbrücken meldete sich dank zweier Joker zurück, drehte das Spiel und verbaute der SpVgg den Sprung nach ganz oben. Vielmehr bleibt Saarbrücken ungeschlagen und rückt auf den zweiten Tabellenplatz vor. Saarbrückens Trainer Lukas Kwasniok nahm im Vergleich zum 4:0-Sieg gegen den Halleschen FC eine Änderung vor: Bösel begann auf der rechten Abwehrseite für Barylla, der zunächst auf der Bank Platz nahm. Unterhachings Coach Arie van Lent sah keine Veranlassung, seine zuletzt so erfolgreiche Mannschaft zu verändern und schickt exakt die Elf auf das Feld, die den SV Meppen mit 2:1 bezwungen hatte. Nach einer kurzen Abtastphase hatte Haching zunächst eine Ecken-Serie, ehe Hufnagel die erste Möglichkeit für die Gäste verbuchte (11.). Haching wirkte etwas abgeklärter, hatte aber bei Shipnoskis Versuch (12.) ebenso Glück wie bei den beiden Schüssen von Jacob (16., 21.). Dazwischen reagierte FCS-Torwart Batz bei einem Hasenhüttl-Kopfball glänzend. Die Partie ging mit einer hohen Intensität weiter, beide Teams fighteten um jeden Zentimeter Boden im Ludwigsparkstadion. So richtig Zug zum Tor konnte aber weder der FCS noch die SpVgg entwickeln. Das lag wohl auch daran, dass beide Abwehrreihen diszipliniert und konzentriert agierten. Kam der Ball dann doch einmal aufs Tor, waren die Torhüter zur Stelle. Saarbrückens Batz konnte sich vor der Pause noch zweimal gegen Heinrich auszeichnen (42., 44.), Mantl parierte gegen Mario Müller sicher. Auch im zweiten Durchgang änderte sich wenig am Geschehen. Beide Teams attackierten früh und ließen dem Gegner kaum Luft zum Verschnaufen. Dennoch konnte der eingewechselte Froese ein erstes Zeichen setzen (47.). So richtig gefährlich wurde es danach nicht, ehe ein Ballverlust von Zeitz der SpVgg den Führungstreffer ermöglichte. Der eingewechselte Schröter meldete sich mit dem 1:0 für die Gäste an, die in der Folge konzentriert gegen den Ball arbeiteten und dem FCS keine Räume ließen. Trainer Lukas Kwasniok reagierte, brachte Mendler und Schleimer - und die beiden sollten es dann auch richten. Scheimer bediente Mendler, der ließ Mantl keine Abwehrchance (79.). Und Schleimer war es auch, der, als alles schon auf ein Unentschieden hingedeutete, mit einer gut getimten Flanke in der Nachspielzeit den vielumjubelten Siegtreffer von Jacob ermöglichte.
