ManUtd News - What Solskjaer told Paul Pogba after he took penalty off Lukaku and missed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not be speaking to Paul Pogba about his slow penalty run-up style after he missed from the spot against Southampton and has backed him to score the next one. The Manchester United midfielder was given an opportunity to add to his account in stoppage time of United’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side despite Romelu Lukaku being on a hat-trick. After the game, the Belgian striker said he was happy to let usual spot-kick taker Pogba do the honours. However... ------------------------------- Subscribe Here: https://goo.gl/r8kgfa

Wilfried Zaha has apologised for getting sent off in Crystal Palace's draw at Southampton as Roy Hodgson revealed his frustration at the treatment of his star man on Wednesday night. His team had been on course for a deserved victory when Zaha scored his first goal since September 15 with a fine finish in the 41st minute. In the second half, Mamadou Sakho had one effort disallowed before seeing another cleared off the line by Jan Bednarek as they threatened to increase their lead, but James Ward-Prowse scored his third goal in three league games to secure a draw before his tussle with Zaha led to the latter's red card. Booked for his exchange with Ward-Prowse, who scored in the 77th minute, Zaha sarcastically applauded referee Andre Marriner to earn a second yellow that will mean he misses Saturday's fixture at home to Fulham. Zaha tweeted after the game, expressing his regret at his actions. He wrote: 'All I can do is apologise to the team and the fans for my red card tonight because I could of cost us today. I will learn from it for sure.' 'It's disappointing that a player who perhaps provided the most entertainment throughout the game was consistently fouled,' said Hodgson, who refused to criticise Marriner. 'That he wasn't able to contain his frustration with that consistent fouling and complains about a foul that wasn't given and probably should have been. 'I don't think he's targeted as a person I just think players who run with the ball as well as he does just get fouled. His play was good enough to provoke those fouls. 'It's not a good evening knowing he's going to miss the next game. We need him playing. 'We were fairly well in control. The first half performance was very good. Second half we should really have taken one or two of the chances that came our way.' Asked if he expects Palace to make any new signings before the conclusion of the January transfer window, the 71-year-old responded: 'I'm happy with the squad I've got but it's not that big. I don't know that there's any activity planned. 'We've brought in Bakary Sako. I was told we'd bring in two players but I don't count the young goalkeeper (loanee Lucas Perri); a goalkeeper was far from a priority.' Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, who has led his team to eight points from their past 12 as they gather momentum in their battle against relegation, dismissed Hodgson's suggestions Zaha had been targeted and praised Ward-Prowse for becoming so influential. Asked of the attention the 26-year-old Zaha received, he responded: 'Not more than our players were also fouled. (Nathan) Redmond also has to take a lot of tackling situations against him. 'It's normal that good players get more pressure because if you want to defend them you have to be close to them. 'The interesting thing was (Ward-Prowse) scored from the full-back position after we switched the shape. It is absolutely fantastic for taking this chance with both hands.' The Austrian, 51, also insisted he remains unsure over whether Charlie Austin will remain at the club, and is regardless content with his squad. 'I don't want to take a transfer that doesn't fit 100 per cent to us,' he said. 'Maybe in the summer but with this squad to go until May is not a problem. I expect nothing (with Austin).'
Claude Puel says Leicester boos 'not his concern' after Southampton defeat . Claude Puel says he is not concerned about the boos at full-time for his Leicester team as 10-man Southampton left the King Power Stadium with three points. James Ward-Prowse's penalty and Shane Long earned the battling 10-man Saints a 2-1 victory. Long scored in first-half injury-time just two minutes after Yan Valery was sent off for two bookable offences. Wilfred Ndidi's consolation failed to rally Leicester as Ralph Hasenhuttl's Saints moved out of the Premier League relegation zone. The Foxes were booed off with at least one 'Puel Out' sign spotted but the Frenchman will ignore the critics. Puel said: "The fans are disappointed like us and it's a normal thing, it's not my concern, I have to keep my focus and concentrate on the team. "It's a big disappointment, we wanted a good response after our cup game. The players were focused, perhaps a little nervous, and we showed this in the first half. "We wanted to perform, we wanted to have a reaction and our concentration was perhaps too much. It was a difficult scenario. "We didn't manage the first half well. It would have been good to have come back without the second goal but it was harsh and it was a bad moment. "We played with desire and intensity in the second half but we didn't perform enough." Ralph Hasenhuttl praises Southampton's passion in win at Leicester . Ralph Hasenhuttl praised Southampton’s passion after they held off Leicester City with 10 men to win 2-1 at the King Power Stadium. After Saints took an early lead, Leicester looked to have been given a way back into the game when 19-year-old full-back Yan Valery showed his inexperience by picking up a second yellow card (45). However, Shane Long netted just 90 seconds later (45+1) to give the visitors a two-goal cushion heading into the break and Hasenhuttl's men survived a barrage of Leicester second-half possession to pick up their third win in seven Premier League games since he took over from Mark Hughes. The Austrian was proud of the way his players implemented his plan in the second half. "We had to be compact in the second half and try to defend everything," he told Sky Sports. "I think the manner of the performance was good, showing passion. "When they made it 2-1 I thought it would be too long for us to hold on. But the way we defended made it very difficult for the opposition to score. The longer the game went on the steadier and more balanced we were. "That was the key to the success." Valery had been playing on the edge after a flare-up between him and Ben Chilwell resulted in the Saints youngster picking up a yellow card. He did not learn to cool it and his rashness continued as he received a second yellow after tugging back Marc Albrighton. Hasenhuttl admitted he was planning to replace the 19-year-old at half-time before he was dismissed, but also questioned the referee's decision. "I expected the referee to give him a warning before showing a second yellow card," he said. "I wanted to take him off at half-time but the chance was then gone." Southampton striker Charlie Austin has been given a two-match suspension by the Football Association. The 29-year-old was charged after appearing to gesture towards the Manchester City fans as he was substituted in Southampton's 3-1 defeat at St Mary's on December 30. Austin admitted the FA charge in relation to the gesture and will now miss the Saints' Premier League clash with Leicester and their FA Cup replay against Derby. 'Southampton's Charlie Austin has been suspended for two matches with immediate effect following an independent regulatory commission hearing today,' the FA statement read. 'The striker admitted his gesture in or around the 68th minute of the game against Manchester City on 30 December 2018 was abusive and/or insulting.' Austin has featured in Southampton's last four matches in all competitions and has scored three goals for the Saints this season. His absence adds to manager Ralph Hasenhuttl's problems in attack, with Danny Ings and Michael Obafemi both set to miss the clash against Leicester with hamstring injuries.
