If you’ve tried everything but your triceps just aren’t growing, you’re going to want to watch this. Here, I’m going to show you how to get bigger triceps by focusing your attention on the right area of this three headed arm muscle and the best triceps exercises for getting them to grow faster. I promise you, if you follow what I’m showing you then you will finally get this stubborn muscle to start packing on some mass. To begin with as always, it helps to review a little bit of triceps muscle anatomy. The triceps, as the name implies, is a three headed muscle comprised of the lateral head, medial head and long head. The lateral and medial head make up just one third of the overall mass of the triceps. The long head, all by itself, is responsible for two thirds of the overall size of the back side of that upper arm. Most often, it is the long head that gets neglected when it comes to exercise selection. Despite the use of big compound movements like the bench press and close grip bench press, the triceps just won’t grow as much as they should. This is because the lateral and medial head of the triceps are most responsible for extending the elbow under load. This is exactly what these popular pressing exercises do. Without a significant focus on getting that arm up overhead (to place an extra stretch on the long head) or back behind the body (to get a tighter contraction on the long head) you simply won’t maximize the overall development of the arm. That is easily fixable however. In this video, I’m going to show you three popular tricep exercises that can be improved to get more recruitment of the long head. Three of these are going to occur by taking advantage of more stretch while the other is going to help you get a stronger contraction. The first is the lying triceps extension. It doesn’t matter if you are using a straight bar or an EZ bar to do this. The key is twofold. First, you have to make sure that you keep your arm angled backwards even at the top of the movement. This helps to keep tension on the tricep throughout the entire exercise. The second is the level of stretch placed on the triceps muscle at the bottom. If you stop short, and don’t allow your arms to travel back far enough at the bottom then you are going to lose the ability to tap into an extra stretch reflex for a more powerful contraction. This is something covered in a recent video but needs restating. The next exercise is the triceps pushaway. This is often performed with either a cable or band setup. The key is not to angle your body too far forward when doing this. What happens is first, you limit the amount of stretch placed on the triceps once again. Standing more upright can greatly increase the elevation of the arm overhead. The second is the line of force of the cable becomes far less perpendicular to the forearm in the traditional version (which places less tension on the triceps muscle). Third exercise that you will want to improve is the dumbbell overhead extension. Once again, this is popular because of its ability to get a great stretch on the long head of the triceps. The problem here is the dumbbell can be both limiting in terms of the depth of the stretch and harmful to the shoulder joint in the process. If you switch out to a plate, you’ll not only get a deeper stretch but you will put your shoulders in a more biomechanically favorable position. Finally, if you want to get a stronger contraction on the triceps to assist in helping to grow bigger triceps then you want to do this last exercise. Instead of focusing all of your attention on performing standard triceps rope pushdowns with your elbows in front of your body you will want to figure out a way to get your elbow behind your body. This can be done with the offset pushdown shown. The longer rope on the working side will give you a chance to get more extension of the arm behind the torso. The non-working hand allows you to get a heavier load than a kickback while assisting with the eccentric overload as a self-spot on the way back. All of these exercise swaps will help you to build bigger triceps. You won’t be saying “My Triceps Aren’t Growing” anymore if you try these. A St Valentine's Day Massacre at the Riverside Stadium. Middlesbrough 0-4 Aston Villa Paul Gascoigne broke his arm with a violent challenge as Villa strolled to victory at a depressed Riverside stadium. A disastrous night for player and team was entirely self-inflicted with Gascoigne's injury reminiscent of the midfielder's infamous 1991 FA Cup final exit. The former England man was left in tears by his own actions Middlesbrough were just awful in a defeat which increases the threat of relegation and the pressure on manager Bryan Robson. And while it is tempting to call it a Valentine's Day Massacre, Boro's own performance was as damaging as anything Villa managed. Benito Carbone and Julian Joachim made the most of some awful defending to each score twice and boost Villa up to seventh in the table. Gascoigne was taken to Middlesbrough hospital after leading with his arm when he challenged George Boateng. Villa's Dutchman was lucky that he was merely dazed while Gascoigne's forearm was broken by his smash into Boateng's head. The game was delayed for four minutes as the Englishman was stretchered off in tears. Boro were lucky they were able to use a substitute with referee Alan Wilkie not getting a clear view of Gascoigne's actions. This was the former England man's first appearance for Boro in two months, in a side missing a number of regulars. It took Villa only 11 minutes to score, when Festa failed to clear under pressure from Carbone, and Joachim tucked the ball back through to the Italian. Carbone had only keeper Marlon Beresford to beat, and did so with a fierce shot from the edge of the area. Boro's already fragile confidence looked under threat of being shattered, although initially they responded well. Paul Ince fired wide in the 17th minute after a flowing move involving Juninho, while Gareth Barry prodded Keith O'Neill's left-wing cross just past the post. But that was as close as the home side came to a goal all night, and the rest of the first half was nondescript until Gascoigne's violent exit. Villa restarted the brighter, although a fierce midfield exchange resulted in some home pressure and a couple of testing corners for the visitors' defence. John Gregory's first substitution provided the home fans with perhaps their best moment of the night, as a clearly-annoyed Paul Merson was replaced by Lee Hendrie. The former Boro midfielder had been booed on every occasion he touched the ball. We're leaking goals, we're not scoring goals and we haven't won this year. That speaks volumes for us at the moment But the home crowd's delight at his early exit was ruined within minutes as Hendrie set up Carbone to make it 2-0. Villa broke from a 65th-minute Boro corner, and had four men running at three defenders as the substitute found the Italian's run down the left. Carbone's shot was deflected by Mark Summerbell into the net, and supporters began to leave the stadium. Towards the end it was an emphatic victory but I don't want to take anything away from the Villa boys More were on their way home five minutes later when Joachim tapped the ball into an empty net after Steve Stone's cross-shot. And within another five minutes the little striker was left alone to head Alan Wright's looping cross into the net. The atmosphere was more reminiscent of a reserve game than a televised Premiership match. But some of the few home fans did make some noise before the end, with some clear questions and abuse for manager Robson. Teams: Middlesbrough: Beresford, Fleming, Festa, Pallister, Cooper, Gascoigne, Ince, Summerbell, Juninho, Campbell, O'Neill. Subs: Roberts, Gavin, Maddison, Stamp, Armstrong. Aston Villa: James, Delaney, Ehiogu, Southgate, Barry, Wright, Merson, Boateng, Stone, Carbone, Joachim. Subs: Taylor, Cutler, Hendrie, Walker, Samuel. Referee: A Wilkie (Chester Le Street)

- Allen Iverson was unstoppable, beating up the Charlotte Hornets on the court and then blasting his own organization afterward. Iverson scored a career playoff-high 40 points Saturday night, getting 15 of them in a seven-minute burst after Eddie Jones picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter, and the Philadelphia 76ers beat Charlotte 92-82 in Game 1 of their playoff series. After the game, Iverson ripped general manager Billy King for his comments to a Charlotte newspaper that there has to be some "soul-searching" from both Iverson and team management in order for the team to be successful. "I really don't think I'm the leader on this team, I don't think I'm a franchise player at all," Iverson said. "I've heard stories about other franchise players and how they're treated, and I don't get treated nowhere near a franchise player. I'm treated like the 12th player on the bench, believe it or not. "To hear my general manager say I'm not sure the marriage is going to work, it's time to start feeling that way. It's tough to hear that from your general manager." Iverson even mentioned the possibility of "something happening" over the summer, and hinted that his one-game suspension for missing a shootaround in Miami might have cost his team the homecourt advantage." He said he was making his comments at such a strange time "because I'm upset. I mean it from the bottom of my heart." King refused to get off the team bus to discuss Iverson's comments. Iverson's tirade took some of the luster off a stellar night that started to go his way after Jones picked up his fourth foul. Iverson did most of his damage when the Hornets were forced to use David Wesley to defend him, scoring 18 in the third quarter and leading a 23-12 run that changed the course of the game. Iverson went quiet early in the fourth as it took the 76ers more than seven minutes to score their first basket, but he made up for it at the end by scoring six consecutive points after Charlotte pulled within three. Iverson surpassed his previous playoff-high of 37 reached last year against Orlando. It was the ninth time this season that Iverson scored 40 or more points. "You think you mean something to this team," Iverson said. "I've played this year with a torn rotator cuff, broken toe, broken thumb, inflammation in my elbow and other injuries I haven't even said anything about, and I don't think it's appreciated by nobody but my team. "I was shocked to hear (King's comment). I mean, I've been late to practice and I've missed some practices, but the guy who puts on No. 3 for the 76ers should never have to go through what I go through for this organization. I feel like I'm the heart of the team, but I don't feel like a franchise player. "I've said from Day One I want to be a Sixer till I'm finished playing basketball. But to hear the marriage might not work from somebody who matters who can make it work, it's time to start looking at stuff like that," Iverson said. Eric Snow, George Lynch and Tyrone Hill added 10 points apiece for the Sixers, who got little help from their reserves as Toni Kukoc shot 0-for-5 and scored just two points. But the lack of bench production mattered little because of the way Iverson turned the game around. The first four fouls of the third quarter went against Philadelphia, and it looked a bit like a makeup call when Jones was called for an offensive foul with 7:54 left as he barely pushed off on Snow with his forearm. "It was a flop. He told me he flopped," Jones said. Said Snow: "It could have been a no-call." The Hornets led 51-50 at the time, but it forced Jones to the bench for the rest of the quarter and Charlotte wasn't the same without him. With Jones shaking his head in disgust at his team's defensive failings, Iverson hit two 3-pointers, two shorter jumpers, two layups and four foul shots the rest of the quarter to give the 76ers a 75-66 lead entering the fourth.
