La Selección Argentina dio otro gran paso hacia el Mundial 2026 al asegurarse por lo menos el repechaje venciendo por 1-0 a Uruguay en el estadio Centenario por la fecha 13 de las Eliminatorias Conmebol. El conjunto de Lionel Scaloni supo salir airoso de un partido en el que en ciertos pasajes cedió el dominio con un nivel de menor a mayor, plantándose ante las asperezas del rival y llevándose todo el premio gracias a una joya. Muy aburrida resultó la primera parte del encuentro, con los de Marcelo Bielsa tomando la iniciativa presionando alto y logrando generar circuitos a las espaldas de Enzo Fernández, Leandro Paredes y Alexis Mac Allister aunque fallando en el último pase, ante una defensa que se mostró sólida en la mayor parte del trámite. Recién un primer esbozo argentino apareció pasando la mitad de la primera etapa, cuando tras una buena combinación Sergio Rochet controló el disparo de Enzo Fernández. Después, Giuliano Simeone sorprendió con un centro que salió al arco y logró despejar Rochet. En lo último antes del descanso el desarrollo empezó a caldearse, y a escasez de fútbol ganó en chispazos. Rochet dio rebote ante otro centro complicado de Simeone y Josema Giménez se interpuso al remate de Enzo; en la siguiente hubo pelea general tras los roces entre Fernández y Mathías Olivera y otra entrega de una noche de duelo entre Darwin Núñez y el Cuti Cristian Romero. Lo mejor de la Albiceleste se vio en el inicio del complemento, agigantando la figura de Rochet. Thiago Almada empezó a aparecer más suelto y el arquero le desvió primero un remate y luego lo anticipó cuando quedaba mano a mano. En el medio, también Simeone tuvo otra chance frustrada por el guardameta. Hasta que a los 22 minutos el pleito se definió con una genialidad, cuando Julián Álvarez habilitó por izquierda a un solitario Almada y éste definió desde afuera al ángulo izquierdo de Rochet. La acción, ante un partido tan reñido, pareció terminarlo anticipadamente: los entrenadores cambiaron pero nada cambió y Argentina se encaminó a una victoria tan luchada como merecida. En la siempre complicada Montevideo, el conjunto nacional cosechó tres puntos para acumular 28, mantener brechas desde lo alto de la tabla y poner un pie y medio en el Mundial. Der VfB aber biss sich nach und nach in die Partie - und belohnte sich nach einer Viertelstunde: Den Schuss von Jamie Leweling aus kurzer Distanz konnte Bayer-Keeper Lukas Hradecky noch parieren, gegen den Abstauber von Ermedin Demirovic (15.) war der Finne aber machtlos. Patrik Schick verpasste für Bayer die schnelle Antwort, als er den Ball aus zentraler Position nach einer Flanke über das Tor setzte (21.). Der Double-Gewinner der vergangenen Saison mühte sich in der Folge vergeblich um Großchancen, das verletzungsbedingte Fehlen von Florian Wirtz machte sich bemerkbar. Der VfB präsentierte sich in den entscheidenden Zweikämpfen hellwach und hätte kurz vor dem Pausenpfiff nach einem Gegenstoß durch Enzo Millot beinahe noch das 2:0 erzielt (45.+1). Das zweite Tor fiel stattdessen kurz nach Wiederanpfiff: Bei einem schnellen Gegenstoß bediente Enzo Millot Nick Woltemade (48.), der vor Hradecky eiskalt blieb. Diesmal aber gelang der Werkself der rasche Gegenschlag, Jeremy Frimpong (56.) traf per Flachschuss aus halbrechter Position im Strafraum. Doch nur kurz darauf war der alte Abstand wiederhergestellt: Demirovic scheiterte nach einem überfallartigen Angriff noch an Hradecky, von dem Keeper prallte der Ball allerdings zu Granit Xhaka (62.), der ihn unfreiwillig ins eigene Tor bugsierte. Auch dieser Spielstand aber hatte nur kurz Bestand. Piero Hincapié (67.) traf für Leverkusen nach einer Ecke mit einem Schuss in den linken Winkel. Die Partie schien nun völlig offen - und Leverkusen meldete sich eindrucksvoll zurück. Das Eigentor von Angelo Stiller (88.) und Patrik Schick (90.+4) bescherte Leverkusen jedoch den lange nicht mehr für möglich gehaltenen Sieg. Die Aufstellungen: VfB Stuttgart: A.
