Lady Rams Rally Past Princeton to Remain Unbeaten
If anyone saw the URI Lady Rams last season, they would know that Tammi Reiss' team has a habit of finishing strong in the 2nd half. That's exactly what they needed today at the Ryan Center recovering from an 11-point early deficit and scoring only 2 points in the first quarter. The Tigers, meanwhile, suffered their first loss since Nov. 20, 2019, ending the program's 26-game win streak. The Rams took their first lead of the game with 3:33 remaining in the third quarter when Marta Vargas drained a 3-ball to put Rhody up 29-26. Princeton managed to get back on top just before the end of the period however, pulling ahead 35-34 on a trey by Abby Meyers. Dolly Cairns scored 13 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to help push Rhode Island to the finish line. She opened the fourth quarter with a layup that put the Rams ahead for good just 17 seconds in. A pair of made free throws by Marie-Paule Foppossi extended Rhody's lead to eight (53-45) with less than two minutes remaining but Princeton continued to fight and got within four (57-53) with under a minute to go. Cairns and Williams both hit 2-of-2 from the line down the stretch however, effectively sealing the 61-53 victory. Up next the Rams will host Harvard on Tuesday at 6pm seen Live on Yurview, Cox Channel 4 and ESPN+.
