A first-half blitz put Ireland 22-0 ahead on the half hour mark and Andy Farrell's men were able to contrl the contest from then on. England looked to work their way back into the match, and had a try before the break through Fraser Dingwall, but Ireland hit back immediately in the second half courtesy of Dan Sheehan. The hosts again hit back through Ollie Lawrence but Jamie Osborne sealed victory 10 minutes from time. Sam Underhill added a late consolation for Steve Borthwick's men, who are now reeling from back-to-back defeats. Ireland prosper from fast-paced start The clash started at a frenetic pace and after Jack Crowleyâs penalty gave Ireland a 3-0 lead, Jamison Gibson-Park bagged the first try of the afternoon. Tom Curry was penalised for coming in at the side and the Irish scrum-half opportunistically took the penalty quickly in the corner and darted over the line. Crowley added the extras to make it 10-0. As much as England showed glimpses of their own attacking threat, they lacked the clinical edge they showed against Wales two weeks ago, with a series of kicking and set-piece errors dogged their opening 40 minutes. Crowley miscued a second penalty attempt but Ireland were able to extend their lead shortly after, as Stuart McCloskey tore through England's line to relaease Robert Baloucoune to finish in the corner. Freddie Stewardâs subsequent protestations earned him a yellow card to only deepen mire England found themselves in. Referee Andrea Piardi was forced off with a knee injury, replaced by assistant Pierre Brousset, and Ireland continued to tighten their grip on proceedings in south west London. Baloucoune, alongside Gibson-Park, was enjoying a wonderful afternoon and after exploiting a gap in Englandâs defence, it was his simple pass to Tommy OâBrien, one of four first-half replacements, that ensured Andy Farrellâs men went 22-0 up. It took until the 40th minute for England to finally breach Irelandâs excellent defensive effort as Dingwall powered through a gap after Marcus Smith, on for Steward, delayed his pass to create the space. Ireland take control The home side may have had the final say of the opening salvo, but the pendulum of momentum swung back in Irelandâs favour at the start of the second. Henry Pollock, on his first start Guinness Six Nations start, was sinbinned for illegally stopping Irelandâs charge for the line before Englandâs defence then ran out of men as Sheehan powered over to secure the try bonus point. Back up to 15 upon Pollockâs return, the 21-year-old was decisive in the build-up as England struck back through Lawrence, who had the simple task of dotting down after he was played in by George Ford. Osborne then saw yellow to help Englandâs hopes of a comeback but Crowleyâs successful penalty on the hour-mark pushed the men in greenâs advantage to 18 points. England continued to fight but Ireland kept thwarting their efforts as Baloucoune sprinted over to divert Tommy Freeman into touch with the Northampton Saints man metres from the line. Crowley took Ireland to 35 points soon after, the most points Ireland have ever scored at Allianz Stadium, and that total was increased with 10 minutes left as Osborne capped off a lovely Irish move by stretching over the line despite Guy Pepperâs best efforts. There was still time for Underhill to get another back for England but the result was beyond doubt by that stage, as England were left licking their wounds after defeat at home. đĽ LIVE â TRI-STATE SHOWCASE FINALE Game 5 of 5 Cincinnati Jr Cyclones (Black) 14U AA đ Oakland Jr Grizzlies (Gold) 14U AA đ Team Toledo Ice House đ Monday â 9:00 AM (We think. Time is a social construct at this point.) Presidentâs Day. Nobody knows what day it is. The hotel waffle maker has seen things. Letâs close this showcase the right way. ⸝ đ§ WHERE ARE WE? Toledo. Still. Same rink. Same glass. Same coffee that tastes like it was brewed during warmups on Friday. Itâs Presidentâs Day. Five games in three days. Everyoneâs legs are heavy. Everyoneâs voices are gone. Someoneâs kid forgot a skate guard somewhere in Ohio. And weâre finishing with the Grizzlies. ⸝ đť SCOUTING REPORT â OAKLAND GOLD Rating: 86.60 Record: 23-17-5 145 goals for, 114 against. They tied the Tri-State Spartans 3-3. We opened our season against the Spartans and took that wake-up call that changed how we played the rest of the year. Theyâve: ⢠Lost to Toledo ⢠Split with Fox Motors ⢠Beat Pittsburgh Vengeance 5-3 ⢠Handled some Michigan squads pretty confidently Theyâre physical. They play straight lines. They donât back down. Theyâre close to our rating, so this one? This one is a toss-up. Which means chaos. Beautiful chaos. ⸝ đ BROADCAST SITUATION REPORT Andrew is at actual work. Yes. Employment. The thing that funds this hockey addiction. So Hopp is solo. Letâs pause for a moment and acknowledge the danger. Left alone with a microphone, Hopp can: ⢠Go silent for three straight shifts ⢠Narrate a dump-in like itâs the Stanley Cup Final ⢠Or start mumbling about something unrelated entirely With Andrew off at real-life adult responsibilities, this is officially Joseâs time to shine. The legendary XBot 9000 will be deployed. Not âstanding by.â Not âmaybe.â Fully activated. If youâve ever seen a kid unwrap the one thing they circled in the Christmas catalog⌠thatâs Jose with the XBot. Heâs been waiting for this. Polishing it. Updating firmware. Probably whispering encouraging words to it in the hotel lobby. And honestly? When Andrewâs 47-wire, NASA-grade broadcast rig isnât in the building, the XBot becomes the greatest invention since sliced bread. Simple. Clean. Point it at the ice and let it eat. Jose will be running the show from the command center Todd may be dialed in on speakerphone with a five-second delay just shouting âSHOOTâ randomly. Two Minutes for Chirping may become: Thirty Seconds of Technical Difficulties. We ride. ⸝ đľâđŤ TEAM STATUS â MONDAY MORNING EDITION Everyone is cooked. You can tell by the way the kids stretch. Itâs less dynamic warm-up and more âI am 14 going on 47.â Extra coffee may decide this game. If Prime Energy makes an appearance in the locker room, we will not confirm nor deny. ⸝ đ§ GOALIE CORNER Michelle and Lynn have held down the goalie corner like seasoned NHL crease coaches all weekend. Water bottles filled. Towels ready. The sacred goalie head nod between periods. By now theyâve seen enough rubber to start charging admission. ⸝ đ§ HOCKEY DAD ENERGY CHECK Billy - One more missed call and a blood vessel might actually file a complaint. Grant is still at the glass, staring with that look of: âDid that really just happen?â Every parent here has: ⢠Spent $60 on rink food ⢠Said âkeep your feet movingâ at least 47 times ⢠Pretended not to calculate the cost per minute of ice time ⸝ đĽ PLAYER NOTES â PRESIDENTSâ DAY EDITION Neeko is still fully committed to slap-shotting everything. Pass? Slap shot. Clear? Slap shot. Warm-up? Probably slap shot. Braxton is still chirping gravity itself. Jackson is still looking for hits even if the opponent has left the zone. Beans? We assume heâs present. If not, someone text him. At this stage of the weekend, you donât overthink. You just compete. ⸝ đ WHAT THIS GAME IS Itâs not about standings. Itâs not about rankings. Itâs about: ⢠Finishing strong ⢠Competing through fatigue ⢠Showing what three days of hard hockey builds You donât grow playing soft schedules. You grow playing teams like this. ⸝ â KEYS TO THE GAME 1. Short shifts. Nobody hero skates on Monday morning. 2. Stay disciplined. No lazy stick penalties. 3. Keep it simple. 4. One more good effort before everyone collapses in the car. ⸝ 𧥠BIGGER PICTURE This showcase? Loaded with strong teams from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan. The season? Worth every mile. Metro League Tournament next weekend â top seed. St. Louis in March. Tryouts looming. 16U around the corner. This groupâs been tight. Parents have bonded. Kids have grown. Weâve gotten every pennyâs worth of hockey. ⸝ đŹ FINAL THOUGHT Game 5 of 5. 9 a.m. Presidentâs Day. Coffee level: critical. Voices: gone. Legs: questionable. Heart: still there. Letâs finish this thing. If Hopp goes silent, just assume something exciting is happening. Letâs close out Toledo the right way. đťđĽ đĽ
