Inessa Kaagman's penalty enabled Brighton to inflict a major blow on Manchester United's Champions League ambitions with victory at People's Pension Stadium. The Dutch midfielder blasted home from the spot to secure the points as her side recovered from last week's 5-0 thrashing by Everton. It was United's third successive away defeat - which saw them slip behind Arsenal in the battle for third place and a European spot. The Seagulls, who tasted Women's Super League success against United for the first time, remain sixth, but now have a four-point cushion over seventh-placed Reading. Brighton began strongly, going in front when Kaagman thumped the 25th-minute spot-kick into the roof of the net after a foul in the box by United defender Maria Thorisdottir. The visitors responded well after falling behind and Millie Turner might have brought them level, heading Lucy Staniforth's free-kick narrowly over the bar. But Seagulls striker Rianna Jarrett almost made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, bursting through only to be denied by Mary Earps. Although Casey Stoney's side controlled the bulk of possession after the break, they found their hosts' defence in defiant mood. United's clearest opportunity to salvage a point fell to Jess Sigsworth, who was denied by a superb diving stop from Megan Walsh. Katie Zelem headed wide late on as the visitors stepped up the pressure, but Brighton dug in and survived six minutes of added time to clinch victory. #InessaKaagman, #CaseyStoney, #LucyStaniforth #Brighton&HoveAlbionWomen #ManchesterUnitedWomen #WomenSuperLeague
"Bayern Munich are not invincibles" claimed a defiant Tigres UANL head coach Ricardo Ferretti on the eve of the FIFA Club World Cup Final against the German powerhouse. Bayern defeated Egypt's Al Ahly 2-0 in the semi-final, while Tigres beat Brazil's Palmeiras 1-0. Al Rayyan, Qatar. 10th February 2021. #ClubWC #FIFAClubWorldCup #Tigres 0:00 SOUNDBITE (Spanish): Ricardo Ferretti, Tigres UANL head coach: (about Bayern Munich being the favourites ahead of the final) "The Brazilians (Palmeiras) also said many things, but in the end we were the winners. They also were the favourites. As for ourselves, in our minds we are never the favourites because we don't think we are better than anyone. All this talk about a team being the favourite doesn't come from the players or the managers, it is something that comes from you - the press and the supporters. But the average footballer doesn't think they are better or worse than anyone else. And we are like that. So, we can talk as much as we want, but first let's start and play the match, then after we can have a chat." 0:47 SOUNDBITE (Spanish): Guido Pizarro, Tigres UANL captain: (about Bayern Munich being the favourites to win the title) "In this group, we always want to achieve the best result possible and on Thursday we have the chance to play the last match and win the title. We will do whatever we can to get a victory. We are confident in what we have to do and in the plans we prepared to achieve this result." 1:15 SOUNDBITE (Spanish): Ricardo Ferretti, Tigres UANL head coach: (about how he thinks Tigres can beat Bayern) "They are a team used to victories, like ourselves, but that doesn't mean they are invincibles. They lost like we lost, they won like we won. I think they are a solid team like ourselves and as always when we meet a great team, we have to play at our best. And I think we are up to the task." With a 3rd vs 4th clash it was always going to be a tight game. With Wellington Phoenix and Brisbane Roar still hoping to clinch 2nd place a win would defiantly help the chance of that happening. There were multiple chances in the first half and a number of brilliant saves from Jamie Young. Both teams went into the break with the scores locked at 0-0. With everything to play for in the second half, both teams start to come out of their shell and push for the decisive goal. Brisbane Roar’s goal scoring genius at the moment Scotty McDonald was the man to put the ball into the back of the net in the 61st minute with some sheer genius. However the wellington side broke the drought with a goal coming late from Gary Hooper in the 82nd minute. It was enough to see the sides share the points. I chat about the game and what I thought, how this affects the roar’s ACL hopes and also the finals itself. As for right now it’s not guaranteed yet like we thought last week and slightly pre4viewing the upcoming game against Sydney FC. Thank you for all your support on the pass few videos!
