New York Jets injury news today focuses on veteran safety Marcus Maye, who will be out 3 to 4 weeks with an ankle injury, according to Ian Rapoport. Maye has been one of the best players on the Jets’ defense this season, and replacing him will not be easy. However, the Jets are set to get some help from previous injured safeties in Ashtyn Davis and Sharrod Neasman. Wide receiver Jamison Crowder should make his 2021 NFL season debut vs. the Tennessee Titans. Crowder has not played after testing positive for COVID-19 and then suffering a groin injury. Crowder’s availability should help QB Zach Wilson, especially with WR Elijah Moore dealing with a concussion. New York Jets trade rumors continue to surround WR Denzel Mims. According to Mike Garafolo, the Jets have turned down trade offers for Mims, who was inactive in Week 3 vs. the Denver Broncos. Mims has yet to find regular playing time throughout his young career despite being a 2nd round pick. Mims is only in his second season with room to grow. In the 2021 season, Mims has just 3 snaps and 1 catch, but that catch did go for 40 yards. Sunday, the Giants aim to bounce back from disappointing showing by the offensive reserves, who produced just 98 yards through three-plus quarters in a 12-7 loss to the Jets in the exhibition opener last Saturday night at MetLife Stadium. This week, the NY Giants and Browns took part in a series of joint practices ahead of Sunday’s clash, so there should be plenty of familiarity when the two teams kickoff on Sunday afternoon. NY Giants Saquon Barkley continues to make progress in his rehab from a torn ACL, but after not participating in any full-team periods during live practices with the Browns this week, it will be at least one more week before the star running back returns to the field. Both Harrison and Delpit immediately saw action in 11-on-11 team drills. CB Denzel Ward (soreness) is getting close to practicing again, while LB Mack Wilson (shoulder) is day-to-day. Wilson did partake in some individual drills. DE Jadeveon Clowney didn’t practice, but head coach Kevin Stefanski was mum on whether anything is bothering him. The Cleveland Browns have a Super Bowl caliber roster, and might be the biggest threat to the Kansas City Chiefs appearing in three straight Super Bowls next February. Following this week’s joint practices, and the ability to scout Cleveland’s personnel up close and personal, don’t be surprised if some of the players released by the Browns during roster cuts find their way onto the NY Giants’ roster. Meanwhile, the NY Giants’ offense was very disappointing against the Jets, and it remains to be seen how many players the organization cuts wind up on other rosters this fall.
