See the best NJ Sports Betting sites Tray Jackson went for 16 points and Kadary Richmond 16 points, five assists and three rebounds but Seton Hall saw their three-game losing streak snapped with a 73-67 loss at No. 15 Villanova before 17,803 fans. The Pirates were attempting to win their second straight in the arena but instead fell to 15-8, 6-7 in the Big East. Alexis Yetna tallied 15 rebounds and six points in the loss and Myles Cale had 11 points. I’m proud of my guys, I’m not frustrated at all,” Pirates coach Kevin Wilard said. “They battled. The atmosphere was great. I thought that’s the loudest I’ve ever heard this building since I’ve been here.” Said Cale: “Coach wasn’t even mad at us when he came back into the locker room. “He said it comes down to that we have two good, great programs going against each other and it comes down to the last few seconds.” Villanova shot 15-of-16 from the foul line while Seton Hall was 8-of-9. “We didn’t get in the bonus,” Willard said. “I haven’t been in the bonus in three games against them.” Villanova (19-6, 12-3) has now won five straight against Seton Hall since Myles Powell and the Pirates beat the Wildcats, 70-64, on Feb. 8, 2020 at Wells Fargo in their first win at Villanova since 1994. The Pirates were looking for their fourth win this season over a Top-25 opponent after previously beating then-No. 4 Michigan on the road in November, then-No. 7 Texas at home December and No. 25 Xavier on Wednesday at home. The Pirates visit No. 24 UConn Wednesday, giving them another golden opportunity to boost their NCAA Tournament résumé. After dropping to a 12 seed on various mock brackets during their recent skid following a COVID-19 pause, the Pirates are currently a 7-seed per ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, and a 9 according to to Mike DeCourcy of Fox. Seton Hall continues to play without Bryce Aiken, who missed his seventh straight game while in concussion protocol. The Pirates are now 4-3 without Aiken. “Obviously, we miss him,” Willard said. Villanova coach Jay Wright said once Seton Hall gets Aiken back, watch out. “They can beat anybody in the country -- and they have,” he said. The Pirates led 32-29 at the break after shooting 7-of-14 from deep. Richmond had 11 points at the break and Cale was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc for nine points. Villanova scored 14 points off nine Seton Hall turnovers. The Pirates were 10-0 when leading at the half. “We just felt like this is going to be grind, like this is going to be a Villanova-Seton Hall game,” Wright said. “But they were really good.” With Villanova up 45-41, the Pirates rattled off an 11-0 spurt -- capped by a 3-pointer from Jamir Harris -- to go ahead 52-45. But the Wildcats answered right back with a 9-0 run capped by a traditional 3-point play from Jermaine Samuels (16 points) to go ahead 54-52. Jackson hit back-to-back threes to turn a 62-57 deficit into a 63-62 lead with 3:16 remaining. A Justin Moore three put the Wildcats up 67-65 with 2:10 remaining. After Jackson hit two free throws to tie it at 67, Brandon Slater (10 points) got free for a layup off a Collin Gillespie pass to make it 69-67. Seton Hall turned it over when Jared Rhoden touched the ball going out of bounds and Moore hit two free throws to stretch it to 71-67 with 16.5 left. “They made two huge plays on the offensive glass,” Willard said. “Give them credit, they made two huge offensive plays.” Richmond was then whistled for a travel on Seton Hall’s next possession. Moore (16 points) hit two more free throws to make it 73-67. “I’m proud of this team, I love their effort,” Willard said. “You have to give them credit, they made two huge plays.” The Pirates now head to visit Dan Hurley and UConn on Wednesday (8:30 p.m., CBSSN). I think there is a strong chance Money Manziel ends up in the AAF as a starting QB. There was one big surprise last week and that's when the then-winless Stallions upset the then-undefeated Hotshots. It was the biggest upset so far of the short AAF season, although it wasn't an insane surprise as Salt Lake has been a solid team all year. Also, Arizona lost its starting quarterback John Wolford to injury and is dealing with several key injuries in linebacker Steven Johnson (hamstring), defensive back SaQuan Edwards (hamstring) and starting QB John Wolford (back). Despite Memphis' 0-3 record, this should be an interesting game against the Fleet. The Express have improved over the last two games, especially on defense, and Mike Singletary finally made the decision to bench Christian Hackenberg. Starting in his place will be Zach Mettenberger, who showed some promise with two touchdown passes in a half of football. That’s a 10,000% improvement over Hackenberg. Zac Stacy started the season as the main Express back, but Sherman Badie showed up in a big way last week after just joining the team. If not for an injury to QB Josh Woodrum, the Stallions may even be 3-0 at this point.Garrett Gilbert has looked like the league MVP so far and running back D'Ernest Johnson is third in the league in rushing. The Iron are holding opponents to seven points per game this season and are doing enough on offense to win games. Turnovers will be key in this one, as Birmingham's eight forced turnovers lead the league.
