"Last-place #LotteGiants record most pitch clock violations in KBO over first six weeks The Lotte Giants would have recorded the most pitch clock violations in the #KBO over the first six weeks of games if the system was being enforced, averaging 10.59 violations per game according to statistics released by the KBO on Monday. The newly-introduced pitch clock is used to limit the amount of time a pitcher uses before he throws the ball to the hitter or the amount of time a hitter uses before he prepares to hit. In the KBO, pitchers are given 18 seconds to pitch with the bases empty and 23 seconds with runners on base. But while the clock was introduced this year, it is not currently being enforced. Pitch times and violations are being monitored by the KBO, but there are currently no punishments for violating the clock. In the 34 games the #Giants have played since the start of the 2024 season, the Busan club has recorded 360 pitch clock violations for an average of 10.59 per game. The Hanwha Eagles come in second at an average 8.69, followed by the SSG Landers at 7.81, Kia Tigers at 6.06, Kiwoom Heroes at 5.85, NC Dinos at 5.09, Doosan Bears at 4.89, Samsung Lions at 4.83, LG Twins at 4.3 and KT Wiz at 3.38. [NEWS1] The Hanhwa Eagles bow their heads after losing a KBO game against KT Wiz at Suwon KT Wiz Park in Suwon, Gyeonggi on April 24. [NEWS1] In total, there has been 2,173 pitch clock violations recorded across the 178 games played as of Sunday, which is an average of 12.21 per game. In the MLB, which has used an enforced pitch clock since last year, the average number of violations across the first month this year was just 0.32, with 74 percent of games played without a single violation, according to the Washington Post last week. Alongside the clock violations, the Giants also lead the league with the highest average game length, at three hours and 13 minutes, followed by the Dinos at three hours and 10 minutes, the Tigers and Landers at three hours and nine minutes, the Eagles at three hours and eight minutes, the Twins at three hours and seven minutes, the Lions and Bears at three hours and six minutes, the Wiz at two hours and 59 minutes and the Heroes at two hours and 58 minutes. The extra time taken has not benefited the Giants, who currently sit in 10th place on the KBO table. The Eagles, who had the second-highest average number of violations, sit in ninth place, behind the Wiz in eighth and the Heroes in seventh. The Bears sit in sixth, behind the reigning champions Twins in fifth, Landers in fourth, Lions in third and Dinos in second. The Tigers lead the table, one game clear of the Dinos." "I went to LSU to watch Angel," says O'Neal, referring to Reese's senior night tribute, during which he escorted her and her mother onto the court. "It was my first time ever seeing the girls' game way more packed than the boys' game, but it was actually a good feeling," he says, acknowledging the benefits for basketball in general. "I'm happy for the young female athletes, and it's inspiring to young girls," O'Neal explains. I think sports and music are the only two things that can have people turn off their stress, turn off negative stuff and just sit and relax and wind down." O'Neal says he doesn't have a prediction for the men's Final Four this year since he hasn't been keeping up with their teams, but his "perfect" bracket for the 2024 Women's Final Four "would be Iowa, LSU, South Carolina and USC, if it's possible."
The 2011–12 Los Angeles Kings season was the 45th season (44th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. Although they finished the season with 95 points, and the eighth seed in the Western Conference playoffs, they went on to capture the first Stanley Cup championship in team history. On December 12, 2011, the Kings fired head coach Terry Murray and named John Stevens interim head coach. On December 20, 2011, the Kings hired Darryl Sutter to be their head coach, replacing Stevens. With only one month to play in the regular season, the Kings were tenth in the Western Conference, two seeds away from a playoff spot. Their defense and goal tending being the only highlights throughout most of the season, highlighted by Jonathan Quick and Drew Doughty. The offense was loaded with talent, but unable to find any kind of significant consistency. Until the final month and a half, when they proceeded to go 12–4–3 in their final 19 games as their offense finally caught fire and started scoring the goals they lacked earlier in the year. Securing the eighth and final playoff seed in their 81st (and second-to-last game), a shoot-out loss to their arch rivals, the San Jose Sharks. Out of the Kings' 82 regular season games, 21 ended in a shutout; the Kings were shut-out ten times, the most of any NHL team in the regular season. The Kings made the playoffs for the third consecutive season, needing a win in the final game to secure the eighth seed. The Kings also became the second team to eliminate the first, second and third seeds from the playoffs in the same post-season (after the 2003–04 Calgary Flames), as well as the only team to win the Stanley Cup after defeating the first, second and third seeds in sequence. (Darryl Sutter was the head coach of both the 2003–04 Flames and 2011–12 Kings.) They then defeated the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals, becoming the first eighth seed in North American professional sports history to win a championship. They are also one of the few teams to win a championship after never benefiting from home-venue advantage in the post-season after the 1994-95 New Jersey Devils. Los Angeles would start every series by winning the first three games, only sweeping the St. Louis Blues.
