Flores (3-1) faced just three hitters in five of his eight innings, including perfect frames in the first, third and fifth. He induced two of UTRGV's (14-10, 1-1 WAC) three double plays in the seventh and eighth innings. Flores struck out six while scattering six hits and two walks. Junior Nikki Rowe alum Ryan Jackson finished up with a scoreless ninth. UTRGV scored against CSU Bakersfield (10-14, 1-1 WAC) starter Davonte Butler (1-4) in each of the first two innings, with sophomore Elijah Alexander scoring on an error in the first and freshman Mercedes alum Oliver Closner IV belting his first-career home run, a two-run shot, into the left field bullpen in the second. Butler settled down to retire 11 of the next 12 hitters, but in the sixth, seniors Austin Siener and Cris Castillo scored on an error to complete the scoring. UTRGV and CSU Bakersfield complete this three-game series on Sunday at 12 p.m. Fans can receive free general admission by helping UTRGV strike out hunger through the donation of five non-perishable food items. Action begins on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the men's heptathlon and 11:15 a.m. with the women's pentathlon. Both events run through Friday. Field events are split between the two days, with the women's high jump, weight throw, long jump and pole vault and men's weight throw and long jump on Friday and the women's shot put and triple jump and men's high jump, pole vault, triple jump and shot put on Saturday. Most running events will have preliminaries on Friday and finals on Saturday, with the exceptions of the 5,000-meter runs, distance medley relays, and 4x400-meter relays. The first two of the aforementioned events will wrap up Friday's action while the 4x400 will put an end to the even on Saturday. The Field The WAC is made up of UTRGV, CSU Bakersfield, Chicago State, Grand Canyon, UMKC, New Mexico State, Seattle U and Utah Valley. All eight institutions field women's indoor track & field teams, but only UTRGV, Chicago State, Grand Canyon, UMKC, Seattle U and Utah Valley field men's teams. WAC Indoor Championships History UTRGV has won two individual WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships since joining the WAC in 2013-14: 2017 - Jennifer Zapata, 3,000-meter run (10:08.30) 2014 - Martin Casse, One-mile run (4:17.80) May Day Paul May enters the WAC Indoor Championships having earned WAC Field Athlete of the Week honor three out of a possible four times. May ranks 86th in the NCAA in the shot put with a program record mark of 17.45 meters at the Howie Ryan Invitational (2/9) and 256th in the weight throw with a mark of 16.162 meters at the Texas Tech Open (2/2).
