Mohammad Shami was excellent too and ended with 3 for 41. But it was Alzarri Joseph who bowled a fiery spell in the middle overs and took the big wickets of David Warner and Rilee Rossouw to put Gujarat on top of things. Gujarat will be pleased with their bowling effort and will now look to start strong with the bat. Some fine hitting from Axar Patel at the end has got Delhi to 162 for 8 in their 20 overs. Having put into bat first Delhi got off to a scratchy start. Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh failed to impress once again. Delhi were two down inside the first five overs. David Warner and Sarfaraz Khan steadied the innings for a while but Gujarat came roaring back and reduced Delhi to 67 for 4. Some handy runs from debutant Abishek Porel and Sarfaraz and a quickfire 22-ball-36 from Axar Patel have taken Delhi over 160. Nicely timed and Wriddhiman Saha is up and running here! Good length again but he offers a bit of width. Saha goes on the back foot and caresses it through cover-point for a boundary. Up and over! Pitches this one up around off Wriddhiman Saha just lofts it back over the bowler's head and clears mid off. The ball rolls away into the fence. Swung away and Wriddhiman Saha has taken a liking to the Impact Player here. Just short of a length over leg stump Saha stands tall and whips it away over the mid-wicket fence for a maximum. 14 off the first over of the chase a good one for Gujarat. Put away first ball! Starts off with a short and wide one Shubman Gill stays on the back foot and just taps it away in front of point to get off the mark with a boundary. Wow what timing! Back of a length around off Shubman Gill stands tall and just punches it on the up. The ball races away through the cover region for a boundary. An attempted Yorker at 147.9 clicks on middle. Shubman Gill bunts the low full toss toward mid on and scampers through for a quick run. In the air but hit crisply! Fullish length outside off Sai Sudharsan plants the front foot forward and drives it firmly through cover-point for a boundary. TIMBER! Anrich Nortje strikes first ball and the Delhi crowd goes wild! Top delivery from Nortje as he begins with a good-length ball on off stump. This is bowled at 143.5 clicks and jags back in sharply off the deck. Wriddhiman Saha looks to hang back and defend but the ball zips through bat and pad to knock over the top of middle stump. Nortje is all pumped up and Delhi have an early breakthrough here. KNOCKS HIM OVER! Anrich Nortje gets rid of the dangerman and Delhi are right back in it. Nortje bowls this from a bit wider of the crease and on a hard length around off stump. This is served at 148.8 clicks and the ball just skids on after hitting the deck. Shubman Gill is caught on the back foot and before he tries to get a bat on it he gets cut in half. The ball destroys the stumps behind Gill and Nortje picks up his second wicket. Cheeky but brilliant from Sai Sudharsan! Anrich Nortje comes from around the wicket and bowls it full and at the stumps at over 144 clicks. Sudharsan simply shuffles across and scoops it back over the keeper's head and over the ropes for a maximum. Slower one from Anrich Nortje full and outside off. Hardik Pandya picks it up and creams the cover drive through the gap for a boundary. Lovely shot from Sai Sudharsan and the 50 is up for Gujarat. Khaleel Ahmed serves it full and around off stump Sudharsan whips it away in between mid on and mid-wicket for a boundary. Though there was not a single fifty-plus score from the batting side they managed to cross the 250-run mark. Earlier in the match Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. Again Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head gave the team a head start adding 68 runs for the first wicket. The dark memories of Vizag was looming around Team India when these two were going all guns blazing. But Hardik Pandya’s fiery spell turned things around for them as he dismissed Head (33 off 31) Steven Smith (0 off 3) and Marsh (47 off 47) in the span of 28 balls to reduce the visitors to 85/3. Then David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne tried to rebuild the innings with a 40-run stand for the fourth wicket. In trying to take on Kuldeep Yadav both Warner (23 off 31) and Labuschagne (28 off 45) were holed out in the deep. At 138/5 Australia were again under pressure and it was the partnership between Alex Carey and Marcus Stoinis worth 58 runs for the sixth wicket and took the team closer to the 200-run mark. The Men in Yellow were under deep waters once again when both Stoinis and Carey went back to the pavilion. While Stoinis (25 off 26) was taken care of by Axar Patel Carey (38 off 46) was undone by a ripper of a delivery from Kuldeep. The lower-order batters Sean Abbott and Ashton Agar added an useful 42-run partnership for the 8th wicket to take the team closer to 250. Axar broke this stand by clattering the stumps of Abbott (26 off 23). Three balls later Mohammed Siraj removed Agar (17 off 21) to push Australia on the verge of an all-out. Mitchell Starc (10 off 11) and Adam Zampa (10* off 11) didn't throw their wickets away stitching 22 runs for the last wicket. Siraj did the job for India in the last ball of the 49th over to put an end to the Australian innings and celebrate his 100th international wicket. From the bowling point of view Hardik Pandya was the successful bowler with the figures of 8-0-44-3. He was well supported by Kuldeep Yadav who also scalped three wickets but went for 56 runs in his full quota. Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj picked a couple of wickets as well. Can India chase it down and win the series or will Australia defend this and take the series home? Kuldeep Yadav: "Thank You sir. Very simple. The wicket is slow. So bowled with pace and kept it tight with variations. Yes those were great wickets and The Carey wicket I enjoyed the most. No I am just working on it. Bowl wicket to wicket and then you can get caught behind and the top edge can get you wickets. I bowled with a lot of seam up balls. Yes the way they started I thought 300 was coming. But Hardik bowled well and we kept them down to 269. But I feel we have to bat well and not lose wickets to chase this down. This won't be easy for sure. But I back our batters to get the job done." The match will be taking place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday 17th March. The encounter is scheduled to start from 1:30 PM IST. After a very competitive Test series the two teams will now be battling it out in the fifty-over format. This series will be a serious ground for the two teams to test themselves out and also their bench strength for the upcoming ODI World Cup later this year. The last time these two teams met in the ODI format was back in 2020 on Australia's home turf. The Aussies managed to win that series by a margin of 2-1. The Indians will be up for redemption this time around and we are all set for three exciting contests ahead of us between two of the top teams in the world. India Team News: Shreyas Iyer will not be available for selection because of injury. Also India will miss the services of Rohit Sharma in this match as he is unavailable for selection because of personal reasons. Australia Team News: Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the ODI series due to personal reasons. Ground Stats: The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium will favour the batters in general. It has a tendency to slow down with the progression of the match but as this is a day-night match this can be counted out. Out of the last five matches that have been played at this venue four have been won by the team batting second. The recent stats might well prompt the skipper winning the toss to field first. Interestingly India have lost the last three ODI that they have played here. The last encounter was against Australia in 2020 where India faced a defeat by ten wickets.
