#livestream #ipl2024 #cricket IPL 2024 Live: MI vs RR Live Score | IPL Live Score & Commentary | Mumbai vs Rajasthan Live Business query: info.iqbalsports@gmail.com Preview: A telling piece of statistic that aptly captures Hardik Pandya's widely debated captaincy is the frequency of him opening the bowling. In 92 IPL games prior to assuming the leadership role, he opened the attack just six times. Since taking over the reins in 2022, he has opened the bowling on 17 occasions out of 33 matches, including in the first two games of IPL 2024. This oddity is underscored by a recent decision of calling upon Jasprit Bumrah for his second over in 13th of Sunrisers Hyderabad's innings. It was in this game that Mumbai Indians conceded the highest IPL total of 277 for 3. It would seem that the team's bowling strategy is going haystack despite IPL veteran like Lasith Malinga among the support staff. For the record, MI have the worst economy rate among the 10 teams since the start of IPL 2023. "Yeah, that day the things were a little different. But at that particular time, what your captain, what the team feels is the best for the team, he was doing that. Most of the times we have seen Jasprit pulling one odd over in the power play and then one in the middle and a couple of overs in the death. Most of the bowlers, not only from our team, even from the other team, all went for runs. So the game was like that. The surface was like that," Piyush Chawla, the MI spinner, said defending the bowling changes. No wonder then that Mumbai are without a win from two games but then MI losing initial games is nothing new. They have been here and done that. They have the wherewithal to bounce back, more so when they are playing four games on the bounce at home. But they certainly need to review their strategies - bowling in particular -- when they take on Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede on Monday night. The visitors have had a blazing start to the season with all wings of the side working. The captaincy of Sanju Samson has been very sagacious while the team's investment on Riyan Parag is paying off. The R Ashwin-Yuzvendra Chahal combination has started well while Avesh Khan and Sandeep Sharma, the two Indian pacers, have done well too. Trent Boult, well, has been Trent Boult. The only concern for the Royals may be the form of Jos Buttler who, interestingly, got five ducks last year, the most for anyone in a single edition, and managed only scores of 11(9) and 11(16) in this season so far. Given his quality and experience, the team management will persist with the English captain for now but at some stage during the season, they could unleash Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Prince of Wales Conference (P1) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (P3) New York Islanders The Islanders upset the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions. David Volek's overtime goal in game seven was the deciding goal as New York rallied from a 3–2 deficit to defeat the Penguins. Islanders defenceman Darius Kasparaitis played a large role in his team's win neutralizing Pittsburgh stars Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr with big hits. With their upset of Pittsburgh, the Islanders reached the Wales Conference Finals for the first time since 1984. The Islanders did not win a playoff series again until 2016. The Islanders' triumph was stunning in its own right, but the method was even more startling. The Penguins scored twice in the last four minutes of the third period on goals by Ron Francis and Rick Tocchet to force vertime. "We weren't sure they had anything left, but they dug deep and unfortunately we couldn't win it," said Penguins Coach Scotty Bowman of the resourceful and resilient Islanders. The Islanders have won their last eight overtime playoff games, including four this season, and are 29-7 in their history. The Islanders were once a dynasty themselves, but that was in the early 1980s, when they won four Cups in a row. But in the previous two seasons, they failed to even make the playoffs. Now, they are just eight victories from another title that most everyone assumed would go to the Penguins. "You get a taste for winning and you want to keep it to yourself," said Penguins defenseman Larry Murphy. "Now we're like everybody else that's out. We start over." The Islanders move on to face the Montreal Canadiens in the Wales Conference finals beginning Sunday afternoon in Montreal. The Canadiens have been off since Saturday, when they completed a 4-0 sweep of the Buffalo Sabres to win the Adams Division playoff crown. The Wales Conference winner will meet the Campbell Conference winner in the Stanley Cup finals. Penguins star Mario Lemieux, who had an assist on his team's first goal, did not speak to the media after the game. The Islanders had plenty to say and one of their most talkative players was, perhaps, their best this series, goalie Glenn Healy. He stopped all 19 Pittsburgh shots in the first period and outplayed his counterpart, Tom Barrasso, who allowed two critical and weak third-period goals -- to Volek and Benoit Hogue. "In a seventh game, anything can happen when you get great goaltending," Islanders Coach Al Arbour said. Volek was used in only 56 regular season games and had just eight goals. Two weeks ago, he looked like someone who might be on the transaction wire in July. Tonight he's a playoff hero. "I feel so happy for my team and all the guys," said Volek. "After the past five years, we really deserved something like this." While the Islanders got Pierre Turgeon into the lineup for the first time in this series, the Penguins lost 55-goal scorer Kevin Stevens to a concussion, broken nose and facial cut after an early first-period collision with Islanders defenseman Rich Pilon. Turgeon had not played since Game 6 of the division semifinal series against Washington. A late check by Dale Hunter sent Turgeon into the boards and he suffered a separated shoulder. Turgeon was the Islanders' leading scorer and had a team-high 58 goals. He played only on the power play in the first period tonight, but later took some even-strength shifts. Early in the first period, Stevens lined up a check with Pilon. Though it was not clear from the replay, Stevens may have lost consciousness with the initial impact because he made no effort to put out his hands to break his fall. He landed on his face, and blood seeped onto the ice. He was taken off on a stretcher and will have surgery on Saturday to repair his nose and a sinus cavity.
