Apathy at Tottenham after insipid Man City loss but Arsenal offer glimpse of bright future vs Leeds
Manchester City will surely be crowned Premier League champions again. But what of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham? Three goals separated the teams on the night. And the gap in the table between two of football’s great rivals is now a cavernous 17 points. To think Mourinho was being touted to mount a credible title challenge this season. Instead, he will almost certainly be left to watch on as his old adversary Guardiola reasserts his dominance of the English game. With each passing year, the rivalry between these managerial greats diminishes. In truth, it has ceased to be a meaningful contest as Guardiola has led City to new heights, while Mourinho desperately scraps to get back into that conversation at the top of the game. The Gunners have four big games coming up, with both legs of their Europa League last-32 tie with Benfica and Premier League matches against Manchester City and Leicester City. There is still a lot of football left to play in this campaign but it feels like season-defining run Arsenal at least go into it in good spirits after beating Leeds yesterday. Nice s’offre Montpellier et rêve toujours d’Europe
Cet après-midi, l’OGC Nice sixième recevait Montpellier septième à l’Allianz Riviera.Un choc entre deux équipes qui visent clairement un strapontin européen à la fin de la saison.A cette occasion, Lucien Favre optait pour un 4-3-3 et enregistrait le retour de son attaquant italien Mario Balotelli.Côté héraultais, Michel Der Zakarian alignait un 5-2-1-2 avec le duo Mbenza, Sio en pointe.Dès l’entame du match, le Gym tentait de mettre la pression sur les buts gardés par Lecomte.Malgré une volonté évidente de porter le danger, Nice ne se procurait pas d’occasion franche dans le premier quart d’heure.Au contraire du MHSC qui manquait d’ouvrir le score sur une belle frappe lointaine de Skhiri (14e).Il fallait patienter jusqu’à la 19e minute pour entrevoir une première opportunité niçoise.Suite à un excellent travail de Saint-Maximin côté droit, le feu follet des Aiglons décale sur la gauche Plea dont la frappe enroulée n’inquiètes pas Lecomte (20e).Les hommes de Michel Der Zakarian se montraient une nouvelle fois dangereux sur un centre de Mukiele, Sio profitait de l’apathie de la défense niçoise pour prendre le dessus et dévier le ballon mais cela n’inquiétait pas Benitez (31e).Quelques secondes plus tard, Mukiele encore lui distillait un excellent centre pour la tête croisée de Sio qui filait juste à côté (34e).Juste avant la pause, les Aiglons manquaient une belle opportunité.Suite à un festival de Lees-Melou sur la gauche, l’ancien Dijonais adressait un excellent centre pour Saint-Maximin dont la frappe était repoussée en corner par Lecomte (41e).Au retour des vestiaires, les Aiglons manquaient l’ouverture du score.Sur la droite, Lees-Melou débordait et voyait son centre mal renvoyé par Hilton.Alassane Plea à l’affût décochait une lourde frappe qui filait à côté (56e).Nice ouvrait enfin le score oeu avant l’heure de jeu.Saint-Maximin récupérait le ballon au milieu du terrain, et alertait Lees-Melou qui décochait une superbe frappe lointaine qui trompait Lecomte (1-0, 59e).Sur les bons rails, le Gym pensait bien doubler la mise sur une frappe soudaine de Saint-Maximin à l’entrée de la surface, mais sa tentative passait juste au-dessus de la transversale (67e).Peu en vue cet après-midi, Balotelli récupérait un ballon dans la surface héraultaise et servait Seri dont la frappe était déviée in extremis en corner par Mukiele en corner (77e).Les occasions se multipliaient pour Nice, et Saint-Maximin se retrouvait seul dans la surface mais butait sur Lecomte (78e).En fin de match, Montpellier jetait ses dernières forces dans la bataille mais se heurtait à une formation niçoise disciplinée tactiquement.Grâce à ce court succès, l’OGC Nice grimpait à la cinquième place et s’accrochait à son rêve européen.
