#Millwall Vs #BristolCity Match #Vlog Jed Wallace's second-half penalty-kick gave Millwall a 1-0 Sky Bet Championship success over Bristol City at The Den on Wednesday night. The substitute smacked home from 12 yards in the 64th minute to hand The Lions a victory and a sixth game unbeaten in the League. Gary Rowett made three changes from the side which drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, as Danny McNamara - on his return from injury - Benik Afobe and George Evans came into the starting XI at the expense of Ryan Leonard, Maikel Kieftenbeld and Connor Mahoney. Jed Wallace, meanwhile, returned to the squad to take his place on the bench. The Lions began the game on the front foot and fashioned the first half-chance through the run of Scott Malone to the edge of the box, but his cross was knocked behind by the Bristol City defence. Two corner-kicks followed, but Daniel Bentley was able to grasp the latter out of the air and stop any potential effort on goal. Malone's determination down the left-hand side then allowed him to cross for the leap of Matt Smith, but his header went wide. Millwall were getting a lot of joy down that left side in the early stages, especially through the combination of Malone and Murray Wallace, but numerous crosses failed to be converted into clear-cut chances on goal. An enticing cross from George Saville followed George Evans' long-range attempt being closed down, but the slightest flick took the ball away from danger. Matty James then struck The Robins' first effort of the game, on the break, after 14 minutes, but his attempt rolled wide of Bartosz Bialkowski's near post. There was a hairy moment for Millwall with 16 minutes on the clock as Murray Wallace completely misjudged the bounce of a pass and allowed Andreas Weimann a run on goal, but the duo of Bialkowski and Daniel Ballard spared his blushes, racing back to deflect the shot behind. George Tanner then nodded wide from Jay Dasilva's cross as Bristol City began to get themselves more into the game, but the next chance went the way of Millwall, however, Malone put Evans' cross wide. A golden opportunity was then presented to Afobe with 32 minutes played, but after he sprung the offside trap and connected with Evans' lofted header, Bentley rushed out to save well. There was a minor shout for a Millwall penalty as the first-half began to reach its conclusion, but referee Dean Whitestone was unmoved, with another chance coming in stoppage-time as Afobe connected brilliantly with a cross, but his header was clawed away by Bentley. Chris Martin broke away with the ball at his feet for the visitors early in the second-half but was well marshalled away from danger by the defence, before the big moment came with 63 minutes on the clock as Saville's through-ball saw Afobe latch onto it, only to be brought down by Rob Atkinson. Jed Wallace, a 59th-minute substitute for Smith, stepped up to slam his penalty-kick home, sending Bentley the wrong way, to open the scoring. The Lions' number seven, Malone and Saville were involved in a neat move as the game moved into its last 15 minutes, but the final ball lacked, with the former having to withdraw with five minutes to play after taking a knock - Jake Cooper his replacement. With just two minutes remaining, Jed Wallace won the ball back and began an attack which ended with the ball at the feet of Saville inside the box - after the space to shoot reduced for the midfielder, he was able to feed substitute Billy Mitchell, only for his attempt to be stopped well by Bentley. Just as the clock ticked into four minutes of stoppage-time the ball dropped for Weimann inside the 18-yard area, but a clutch of Millwall bodies were able to throw themselves in front of the ball to stop what would have been the equaliser otherwise. Referee Whitestone blew time minutes later to give The Lions a much-needed win. Millwall: Bialkowski, McNamara, M. Wallace, Hutchinson, Smith (J. Wallace 59'), Malone (Cooper 85'), Ojo (B. Millwall vs Leicester City Carabao Cup match Vlog
Millwall vs Leicester City Carabao Cup match Vlog

#Millwall vs #Leicester City Carabao Cup #matchVlog A GOAL at the start of the second half from Ademola Lookman and one at the end from Kelechi Iheanacho saw Millwall’s Carabao Cup campaign end in the third round. The Lions were the better side for long periods in both halves but lost out to former Charlton winger Lookman’s 50th-minute strike and Iheanacho’s late second. Match action Despite the likes of Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and Jamie Vardy not being in the XI, Brendan Rodgers still picked a strong Leicester side. But Millwall – with seven changes to their side – more than matched their Premier League opponents in the opening period and had the only clear-cut chance of the half, although Ryan Leonard failed to hit the target when the ball fell kindly for him following a Lions throw-in. It took the visitors 42 minutes to register an attempt, and even then, Youri Tielemans’ free-kick failed to trouble George Long after he had been upended just outside box. Up the other end, Ben Thompson came close to giving Millwall what would have been a deserved half-time advantage, only for his looping header to end up on top of the net. The home side had the better of the first 45 minutes and left the pitch to a generous applause from those inside The Den, who had more than played their part in making it feel like a proper cup tie. However, the top-flight side kicked into gear early in the second half and took the lead five minutes in. Leonard’s loose pass to Jake Cooper saw the centre-back dispossessed, and the Foxes took advantage when Iheanacho broke away and after his shot was saved by Long, Lookman was on hand to score the rebound. Despite a spirited second-half showing from the Lions, they lacked quality in the final third and the closest they came to levelling was when Connor Mahoney’s free-kick evaded everyone but somehow sailed wide when all it needed was a touch from someone in blue. Leicester made the game safe when Iheanacho was played through two minutes from time, and he blasted past Long after getting the better of substitute Dan Ballard. Mahoney gives Rowett food for thought? It’s been almost a year since Mahoney was named in the starting XI, but with Sheyi Ojo and Jed Wallace both out ill and Mason Bennett not involved, it was a rare chance for the wide man to impress. It certainly didn’t all go his own way, but Mahoney kept coming back for more. And while he still needs to add more quality and improve his decision-making in key areas, there was plenty to like about his performance. He should have gone home with an assist, but none of his team-mates gambled on his second-half free-kick, which somehow managed to miss everyone and curl agonisingly just past the far post. Millwall look better with Shaun Hutchinson back It might now be just one clean sheet in 11 games in all competitions for Gary Rowett’s men this season, but failing to keep one against Leicester is by no means a disgrace. The major positive for the Lions boss, though, was having Hutchinson back in the side for the first time since he suffered a thigh problem last month. Hutchinson got through just over an hour – as planned – and Millwall looked more assured and confident with him in the side. Even against superior opposition, the vice-captain’s return was a welcome run-out, and should give Rowett another option at Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Still no luck in the Carabao Cup Millwall have a love affair with the FA Cup, their last fairytale run after they defeated these opponents to reach the quarter-finals in 2017. However, they’re yet to crack the Carabao Cup and still haven’t reached the fourth round since the 2005-06 campaign, although it was once more used as any opportunity to give minutes to squad players and rest others. They gave it a good go against a side that are playing in Europe this season and are the holders of the FA Cup, but this was their fourth third-round defeat on the bounce, ending their impressive home run in this competition this season. Millwall: 5-2-2-1: Long; Leonard, Hutchinson (Ballard, 65), Pearce (Afobe, 72), Cooper, M Wallace; Mitchell, Evans; Mahoney, Thompson (Smith, 72); Bradshaw. Subs: Bialkowski, Malone, Saville, Bodvarsson. By Jake Sanders at The Den Taken from https://newsatden.co.uk/81760-report-millwall-0-2-leicester-city/

Millwall Vs Cambridge United Carabao Cup Fan Match Vlog

Match Vlog from #Millwall Vs #Cambridge United in the #Carabao Cup 2nd round game at the Den. Millwall advanced to Round Three of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over Cambridge United at The Den. George Williams opened the scoring for The U's in SE16, but two goals in three minutes from Murray Wallace, followed by a poacher's finish from Matt Smith after the break, earned The Lions a safe passage into the next round. Gary Rowett opted to make numerous changes for the visit of The U's, including starts for the likes of George Long between the sticks, Ben Thompson, Tom Bradshaw and Alex Pearce. There was also a place on the bench for Alex Mitchell. After the game started as a midfield battle, the first chance came on seven minutes and went the way of Millwall, but Bradshaw's acrobatic kick struck the crossbar after Smith's knockdown from Billy Mitchell's cross. The midfielder, playing at right-wing-back, was involved again three minutes as, after Cambridge failed to clear a corner-kick to safety, the ball broke to The Lions' number 24, but his goal-bound shot was deflected wide. A further corner followed in which the ball flew around the six-yard box, but The U's managed to scramble the ball away. From there, the visitors managed to have a brief spell of attacking pressure, which The Lions rode with success, but on 33 minutes, Cambridge were able to take the lead after Williams ghosted in, completely unmarked, to head home the opener from a free-kick. Connor Mahoney's corner then had to be clawed away by Dimitar Mitov from under his own crossbar as Millwall attempted to get back into the game, with Bradshaw heading George Evans' cross over from the follow-up. Six minutes after The U's took the lead, The Lions managed to get back on level terms as Murray Wallace took the ball down on the left-hand side before cutting inside and striking a right-footed effort into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area. Incredibly, three minutes later, Millwall managed to nudge themselves in front and from the boot of Murray Wallace once again, as the left-back pounced on a loose ball to fire home from close-range after a clutch of bodies attempted to turn home a Mahoney corner. Connor Masterson caused Long momentary panic six minutes into the second-half as the two came together in the area following a Shilow Tracey cross, but the stopper managed to clear under pressure, before The Lions made it three on 54 minutes as Mahoney rode one challenge and twisted and turned inside the box before feeding Smith, who poked home from close-range. Williams almost struck a Cambridge - and personal - second goal of the evening two minutes later as the skipper wrestled the ball away from Bradshaw before forcing a smart stop from Long - and the dream almost happened just before the hour-mark, but Murray Wallace crashed a header against the crossbar as The Lions hit the woodwork for the second time. Jake Cooper nodded a Mahoney corner over the game entered its final quarter, with Long having to be on guard again with 69 minutes on the clock as a loose ball broke to Sam Smith inside the area - the stopper tipping the attempt wide. Just moments later, the goalkeeper once again had to pull off a strong save as Harvey Knibbs sprung the offside trap and advanced towards goal. There were 13 minutes to play when Long was in action once more, adjusting well to save a deflected shot from just outside the area. Rowett then brought Alex Mitchell on for his debut with 10 minutes to play, replacing Daniel Ballard, and with no further action to report on, The Lions safely booked their place in Wednesday night's Third Round draw. Millwall: Long, M. Wallace, Cooper, Thompson (Saville 72'), Bradshaw, M. Smith (Bodvarsson 72'), Pearce, Mahoney, B. Mitchell, Ballard (A. Mitchell 80'), Evans. Subs not used: Bialkowski, J. Gary Rowett’s side were nearly caught out again when Ivan Cavaleiro struck wide after he was sent through one-on-one with Bartosz Bialkowski. Just after the restart, Bialkowski made a very good save of #Mitrovic before he reacted well to keep out another Carvalho effort. The Lions came so close to halving the deficit when Scott Malone’s teasing cross was met by Matt Smith, who headed over. However, five minutes later, Millwall did pull one back, Matt Smith’s header rebounded off Benik Afobe’s head which wrong footed Gazzaniga in the Fulham goal. Millwall vs Fulham Match VLOG from The Den
Millwall vs Fulham Match VLOG from The Den

Pre, during and post match reaction from Kai at The Den as #Fulham run out 2-1 winners. #Millwall were defeated 2-1 by Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night at The Den. Aleksander Mitrovic and Fabio Carvalho's goals in the opening minutes of the game ensured that the three points would head to West London and hand The Lions a first defeat of the 2021/22 campaign, despite Benik Afobe's late consolation. Gary Rowett made two changes from the side which drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon, as Mahlon Romeo and Ryan Leonard came into the side at the expense of Danny McNamara and George Evans, who both dropped to the bench. George Saville had the first opportunity of the game - which was blocked - but with three minutes on the clock, Fulham took the lead after Fabio Carvalho raced down the left-hand side and cut the ball back to Mitrovic, who had no qualms in slotting home for the opening goal of the game. Five minutes later, it was two, as a through-ball allowed Carvalho to turn from provider into goalscorer and fire past Bartosz Bialkowski. After that early double-blow, The Lions made attempts to get back into the game, but were met with a strong Fulham resistance - Scott Malone at the heart of most of the attacking, but to no avail. At the other end, Neeskens Kebano looked to twist and turn past the Millwall back-line but the winger found his shot blocked by Jake Cooper, and whilst The Lions continued to advance into forward positions at the midway point of the half, their final ball was letting them down. On the half-hour mark, Fulham were able to break with the ball at the feet of Ivan Cavaleiro, but with a chance to potentially put the game to bed at his mercy, the Fulham man flashed his shot wide of Bialkowski's near post. Three minutes before the break, Kebano was able to shrug off the close attentions of Cooper and cross from a tight angle, but fortunately for The Lions, Leonard was situated in the right place to clear the danger. Cavrvalho then looked to double his tally in first-half stoppage-time, but his effort from the edge of the area was deflected wide. Rowett moved to bring Matt Smith into proceedings at half-time, changing personnel as Leonard moved to right-back and Jed Wallace to right-wing, but it could - and perhaps should - have been Fulham to put the ball in the net early in the second 45, but an outstanding double-save from Bialkowski, first from Mitrovic and then from Carvalho, kept the score at 2-0. There was another double block from The Lions, this time with 57 minutes on the clock, as after Ballard dallied in possession, not one, but two goal-bound efforts were heroically stopped by the diving bodies of the Millwall defence. Ballard then had to slide in and prevent Mitrovic from adding a third shortly after, poking the ball behind from inside the six-yard box. Jed Wallace and Smith had wayward shots off target as the hour-mark came and went, with Cooper having to come to the rescue on 76 minutes as goalscorer Carvalho raced his way into the box - the defender with a big block to prevent Bialkowski being tested. The Pole was tested with nine minutes to play as Cavaleiro twisted and turned inside the area before unleashing a vicious attempt towards goal that the stopper had to beat away, before The Lions' best chance of the game came on 82 minutes, but Smith nodded Murray Wallace's header inches over the bar. With three minutes remaining, Afobe was able to get his first Lions goal as he turned Smith's header over Paulo Gazzaniga and into the net, with the striker then shooting straight at the stopper, before Cooper's header went over as a late rally proved to be not quite enough. Millwall: Bialkowski, M. Wallace, Cooper, Kieftenbeld (Evans 79'), J. Wallace, Malone, Romeo (Smith 46'), Saville, Leonard (McNamara 79'), Afobe, Ballard. Subs not used: Long, Bradshaw, Pearce, B. HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Millwall (4-1) | Pre-season | Chambers, Lacazette, Pepe, Balogun

Four different scorers found the net as we continued our pre-season preparations with a commanding win over Championship side Millwall on Saturday afternoon. Calum Chambers grabbed our opener, while Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Folarin Balogun were also on target. There was also a first glimpse of Albert Sambi Lokonga in our famous red and white, with the 21-year-old completing 45 minutes in central midfield alongside first Thomas Partey, and then second-half substitute Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Alex Mitchell's close-range finish from a late Millwall corner was a minor blotch on our performance, but overall Mikel Arteta will be pleased with his side's professional pre-season display following the potential disruption that could have been caused by the cancellation of our US tour. After all, his side attacked right from the first whistle and Kieran Tierney was the biggest threat inside the opening 10 minutes. First he dropped a shoulder to find Eddie Nketiah, who headed over, before Mohamed Elneny dragged the Scotland international's low cross wide of the mark. We were nearly made to rue our missed chances just moments later when Connor Mahoney's free-kick was headed off the base of the post by Jake Cooper. Then we were indebted to Arthur Okonkwo, whose quick reflexes somehow kept out former Gunner Benik Afobe from six yards. But then we did make our early dominance count. Pepe surged forward on the right-hand side and, sensing a deep delivery, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang peeled off to the far post. When the ball game in, our captain was stood back to goal on the edge of the box, but still managed to strike the crossbar with a stunning acrobatic effort. Chambers was quickest to react and tap into the gaping net. Half-time presented Arteta with an opportunity to freshen things up and he obliged, with Lokonga coming on for his Gunners debut, alongside Nuno Tavares, Karl Hein and Lacazette. And it didn't take our No 9 long to make his mark. Again, our build-up play came down the right-hand side and when Chambers found a yard of space, he arrowed in an inch-perfect cross for Lacazette to head home at the far post. The Frenchman was heavily involved in our third, too. Aubameyang occupied a pocket of space on the left-hand side and ran at his man before sending across a low delivery. Lacazette, hearing a shout, stepped over the ball, leaving Pepe with a simple finish into the top corner from 10 yards. Emile Smith Rowe could have got himself on the scoresheet soon after, surging forward with a trademark dart behind Millwall's back line. But after he'd expertly brought down Partey's long diagonal, he couldn't apply the finishing touch. There was still time for a fourth goal, though. Balogun, one of four substitutes made by Arteta on the hour mark, stretched the visitors' back four. Willian combined with Lacazette and spotted our academy graduate on the move, threading a ball through for Balogun to round the keeper and tap into the empty net. We looked to be heading towards our first clean sheet of pre-season but, with just minutes left on the clock, Murray Wallace headed a corner into Mitchell's path and the 19-year-old poked past Hein from close range. Arsenal starting XI: Okonkwo, Chambers, Holding, Mari, Tierney, Partey, Elneny, Pepe, Smith Rowe, Nketiah, Aubameyang. Substitutes: Hein (for Okonkwo 46), Lokonga (for Elneny 46), Lacazette (for Nketiah 46), Cedric (for Mari 60), Tavares (for Tierney 60), Balogun (for Aubameyang 71), Maitland-Niles (for Partey 71), Nelson (for Smith Rowe 71), Willian (for Pepe 71). #arsenal #smithrowe #nicolaspepe #balogun Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Willian, Hector Bellerin, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Thomas Partey and more.
