LeBron gets 28, Lakers hold off Bulls 117-115 without Davis LeBron James had 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, and the Los Angeles Lakers overcame the absence of two injured starters for a 117-115 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. Zach LaVine scored 38 points, but the UCLA product missed a 17-foot jumper with 4.7 seconds left that would have put Chicago ahead. Montrezl Harrell had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the defending NBA champions, who have won five of six. James and Harrell led the way as Los Angeles held off the Bulls down the stretch without injured starters Anthony Davis and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The Lakers lead the Western Conference at 7-3 despite the challenges of injuries and several roster changes. Dennis Schroder scored 17 points and hit a 3-pointer with 2:39 to play to put the Lakers up 113-107, but Chicago trimmed the lead to 116-115 on Garrett Temple's 3-pointer with 37 seconds left. James missed an extra-long 3-pointer to put the game in Chicago's hands, but LaVine missed his contested jumper, and his teammates fumbled the ball out of bounds. LeBron James, Anthony Davis 'Unlikely' to Play in All 3 Scrimmages Lakers head coach Frank Vogel told reporters Friday that it is "unlikely" that guard/forward LeBron James and big man Anthony Davis play all three scrimmage games in advance of the NBA's restart at the Walt Disney World resort near Orlando, Florida. HOWEVER, Kyle Goon of the Southern California News Group, Vogel said plans have not been finalized and that the duo could end up playing all three. The Lakers will be playing the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, the Orlando Magic on July 25 and the Washington Wizards on July 27. The entire scrimmage schedule can be found here. The Lakers play the Los Angeles Clippers on the first night of the restart on July 30. DeMarcus Cousins Suffered a Torn ACL to his Left Knee | Boogie Out for the Season | Lakers News 2019 Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins' season is over before it even begins because of a knee injury he suffered during a workout in Las Vegas on Monday. Cousins' agent, Jeff Schwartz told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski testing confirmed Cousins tore his left ACL. Wojnarowski also noted a timeline for surgery would be forthcoming. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium first reported the possibility of a torn ACL. Wojnarowski reported Cousins left the court while working out after "'bumping knees' with another player." Injuries have become a recurring problem for the four-time All-Star over the past two seasons. He ruptured his Achilles in January 2018 while playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, causing him to miss the rest of that season. The Lakers took a chance on Cousins by giving him a one-year deal worth $3.5 million. He was joining LeBron James and reuniting with Anthony Davis—after they played parts of two seasons together in New Orleans—with the goal to win a title in L.A. in 2019-20. If Cousins is on the shelf for an extended period, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel can use Davis as his primary center with Kyle Kuzma at power forward.
