Russia: Stavropol situation 'under control,' counter-terror op launched

Special security measures are in place after a police station came under attack in the Stavropol territory on Monday, Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee has said. Spokesperson Vadim Druzhinin said from Moscow that the situation in the Novoselitsky district "is under control." SOT, Vadim Druzhinin, spokesperson of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (Russian): "During an attempt by unidentified persons to enter a local police station in the Novoselitsky district of the Stavropol territory, there were blasts involving unidentified explosive devices at 10:10. The head of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee in the Stavropol territory sent representatives of the police, the Federal Security Service [FSB] and Emergencies Ministry to the scene, which they are now cordoning off. The operational headquarters of the committee is coordinating the activities of the emergency responders, the FSB and the police. Explosives experts and an operational investigative group are working at the scene. We have no information about the policemen, who were injured during the incident. A counter-terrorism operation has begun in the Novoselitsky district. Currently we are working on the identification of all the criminals and their accomplices, who were involved in detonating the explosive devices. We took measures to remove the effects of the explosions. The situation in the zone of the incident is under control."
