Mumbai Indians (MI) have struggled in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season and are already knocked out of the tournament. Nothing has gone right for them this season apart from the win that they registered in their ninth game of the season. Meanwhile, their pace bowler Tymal Mills has been ruled out of the rest of the season due to ankle injury. The five-time champions have signed the middle-order batter from South Africa, Tristan Stubbs, as his replacement. Mills played five matches for MI in this season and picked up six wickets while also being at the expensive side in terms of his economy. Meanwhile, his replacement, Stubbs has featured in 17 T20 matches so far and has scored 506 runs at a strike-rate of 157.14. Stubbs also had a promising domestic season scoring 293 runs at an average of 48.83 and a strike-rate of 183.12 playing for Warriors in the CSA T20 Challenge. He has been signed for his base price of INR 20 lakh and will join the MI squad soon. Mumbai Indians are scheduled to play the table toppers Gujarat Titans in their next game at the Brabourne Stadium. Sportlust ’46 wint relatief eenvoudig van VVOG Nadat Sportlust ’46 vorige week de volle buit behaalde in de topper tegen Sparta Nijkerk heeft de ploeg van Patrick Loenen opnieuw een overwinning behaald. Al voor de rust kwam er een 4-0 voorsprong op het scorebord te staan en het was spits Mark v.d. Weijden die met een loepzuivere hattrick een groot aandeel had aan de uiteindelijke overwinning. Ook de prachtig ingeschoten treffer van Mo Bendadi is een aparte vermelding waard ! Alleen een overwinning zou Sportlust ’46 verder helpen na de laatste overwinning in Nijkerk, de opdracht was dus eenvoudig; vol gaan voor de drie punten. En dat deden de gastheren dan ook. Al na vijf minuten kwam de thuisploeg op voorsprong, een voorzet van Zakaria Issarti werd door Mark v.d. Weijden bij de 1e paal prima binnen gewerkt en daarmee was de vroege voorsprong een feit. Hierna gingen beide ploegen op zoek naar meer goals, de thuisploeg had het betere van het spel maar het Harderwijkse VVOG beet heel af en toe van zich af maar dat leverde geen echte kansen op. In de 20e minuut was het Mark v.d. Weijden die de voorsprong verdubbelde, hij zette de doelman van VVOG onder druk na een terugspeel bal en omdat de goalie de bal simpel van zijn voeten af liet springen wist v.d. Weijden de bal eenvoudig in bezit te krijgen en doeltreffend af te ronden. Even was VVOG van slag af en daarvan maakte Sportlust 6 minuten later alweer gebruik van. Na een vloeiende aanval over de rechterzijde was het de mee opgekomen Aaron Sieders die een hele goed voorzet afleverde op het hooft van v.d. Weijden en de trefzekere spits kopte de bal onhoudbaar achter de doelman van VVOG in het net. 26 minuten gespeeld en dan al een hattrick op je naam schrijven, geen wonder dat v.d. Weijden na de wedstrijd werd uitgeroepen tot man of the match. Maar nog was de honger van de Woerdenaren niet gestild want de thuisploeg bleef de Harderwijkers onder druk zetten en dat leverde in de 28e minuut een werkelijk fantastisch mooi doelpunt op. Het was Mo Bendadi die geheel vrijstaand op het middenveld de bal in de voeten kreeg aangespeeld. Nadat hij de bal onder controle had gebracht dribbelde hij richting de goal van VVOG en besloot om op 20 meter van de doellijn af te drukken. De bal verdween met een prachtige curve over de doelman van VVOG heen en belandde daarna in de buurt van de kruising in het net. Dus al voor het half uur was de wedstrijd gespeeld en wisten de Woerdenaren dat zij de drie punten konden bij schrijven. In het restant van de 1e helft gebeurde er niet veel meer, Sportlust vond het voorlopig wel even genoeg en VVOG wilde alleen maar voorkomen dat het allemaal nog erger werd en dus was de stand in de rust 4-0 voor Sportlust. De tweede helft had eigenlijk ook wel op papier uitgevochten kunnen worden. VVOG zette in het begin nog wel even aan maar kwam er al snel achter dat de laatste linie van Sportlust goed georganiseerd was en dat er niet veel eer was te behalen. Sportlust zette hier ook niet echt veel tegenover, de ploeg uit Woerden speelde met enige gemakzucht waardoor het veldspel niet veel beter werd en er nauwelijks gevaarlijke aanvallen opgezet konden worden. De wedstrijd kabbelde naar het einde en beide coaches maakte gebruik van de wissel mogelijkheden die zij hadden om spelers de minuten te geven die ze verdienen. Door al die wisselingen in beide teams werd het spel er niet veel beter op en iedereen was dan ook blij dat de goed leidende scheidsrechter Oosting na 90 minuten voor het laatst op zijn fluit blies ten teken dat de wedstrijd gespeeld was. Sportlust sprong door de overwinning over Sparta Nijkerk heen naar de 2e plaats – zij verloren de topper tegen koploper FC Lisse in de laatste minuten met 4-2. Nummer 4, Excelsior ’31, verloor ook zijn wedstrijd uit tegen Ter Leede waardoor er nu na nummer 3 een klein gaatje is gevallen in de rangschikking. Met nog 6 competitiewedstrijden op het programma gaat FC Lisse aan de leiding in de 3e divisie met een voorsprong van 5 punten op de nummer 2 Sportlust ’46. However, with three consecutive losses in the bag, things have fallen apart pretty drastically for them and they've slipped to the seventh spot after seven matches There are problems aplenty for the Kolkata franchise and with key personnel misfiring, they are desperate to find solutions. Take Pat Cummins for example, the pacer has figures of 2 for 49, 0 for 51, 1 for 40 and 1 for 50 - leaking runs at 12.00 in four matches. They haven't been able to control the middle overs because Varun Chakravarthy - four wickets from seven matches at an average of 55.25 - has struggled to keep things in check. Both Andre Russell and Shivam Mavi have an economy of more than 10 while Umesh Yadav and Sunil Narine have been the stand out performers with the ball in hand. While Chakravarthy is struggling with the 'second-season syndrome', Venkatesh Iyer too has caught the same bug. The opener has a half-century but his other scores read - 16, 10, 3, 18, 6 and 6. Aaron Finch, Shreyas Iyer and Russell have looked in good tough at various stages while Sheldon Jackson has squandered all his four opportunities so far. The team will hope for more from Nitish Rana as well, who has struck them at an impressive strike rate of 143.87 but averages just 20.14. With several aspects of their game now wobbly, KKR run into table-toppers Gujarat Titans who have found different ways to win. In four of KKR's seven matches so far, they've had their former players deliver impact performances to steal the game from them. Be it Dinesh Karthik for RCB, Kuldeep Yadav for Delhi Capitals or Rahul Tripathi for Sunrisers Hyderabad. They will now be up against Shubman Gill and Lockie Ferguson. Titans too have a niggling issue to fix at the top of the order. Matthew Wade hasn't quite hit his straps while Vijay Shankar has looked at sea. With Gill posting single-digit scores in his previous three matches, the onus has fallen on Hardik Pandya and the middle order to rescue the side every single time. Gill's two big scores have been 96 and 84 and if he can find support from his opening partner, Titans should become a more potent unit. Teams Kolkata Knight Riders Tactics and Matchups: Barring Narine, all KKR bowlers have struggled in the last three losses. Umesh, Chakravarthy, Cummins, Southee and Russell have leaked runs at more than ten an over and that's left the batting unit with plenty to do. Especially dire has been the performance of Chakravarthy, who has leaked 75 runs in five overs in the last two matches and has gone wicketless. KKR need the spinner to put in an impact performance before it's too late for him and the side. Gujarat Titans Tactics and Matchups: The clash will also see two individuals fighting for a spot in the Indian eleven. Venkatesh has grabbed the finisher's spot from Hardik but has struggled in IPL 2022. The GT captain, on the other hand, has not only scored runs when his team needed it, but has been chipping in with the ball as well. On average Hardik is involved in 55 balls every match (33 with the bat & 22 with the ball) while the figure dips to just 15 for Venkatesh (15 with the bat and two with the ball). The selectors will surely keep an eye on the performance of the two all-rounders, especially with Hardik doing well with the ball.
