Toledo vs. South Carolina in the Eastern Conference Finals starting Friday at the Huntington Center. Shane Berschbach had three points and Tyler Barnes scored twice to lead the Walleye to its second game seven win of the playoffs 5-2 over Fort Wayne Wednesday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo wins the series four games to three and the Walleye will host the South Carolina Stingrays in the Eastern Conference Finals starting Friday. A new Toledo ECHL Playoff Record crowd of 6,523 watched the Walleye race out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. A power play goal at 8:44 of the first period from Tyler Barnes (4th) started the scoring. Kyle Bonis (6th) lifted a backhand shot past Komets goaltender Pat Nagle at 10:17. Justin Mercier (6th) capped a great Martin Frk pass at 17:34. Just 16 seconds into the second period, Tyler Barnes collected his second goal of the game. The Komets climbed back into the contest with a pair of goals before the end of the second period. Jeff Lerg turned aside all 10 Komets shots in the third period and Shane Berschbach (6th) netted the game-winning goal at 17:21. Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg finished the game with 27 saves on 29 shots and his record is 7-5 in the playoffs. Shane Berschbach was the only player in the series to have at least one point in all seven games. The home team won all seven games of the series. Walleye Blast Kalamazoo 8-2 to Clinch Brabham Cup 2015 Kelly Cup Playoffs Start Thursday at Huntington Center vs. Wheeling (Toledo, OH). Tyler Barnes set a new single season points record with a hat trick in an 8-2 Sunday at the Huntington Center. Toledo finished with an overall record of 50-15-5-2 on the season and a record of 26-6-2-2 at home. The Walleye win the Brabham Cup which is given out to the team with the most points in the ECHL. The Wings picked up a power play goal 5:33 into the first period to lead the game 1-0. Toledo evened the game at one when Tyler Barnes (32nd) deflected a Shane Berschbach pass into the Kalamazoo net at 12:20 of the first. That opened up the gates for the Walleye as A.J. Jenks sent a wrist shot past Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin at 13:21 for his 14th of the year. Just 32 seconds later Scott Czarnowczan (2nd) gave the Walleye a 3-1 lead followed at 15:05 of the first period by Josh Holmstrom (13) and a 4-1 lead after one period. A.J. Jenks picked up his second goal of the night at 4:19 of the second period. Kalamazoo closed to within a goal before the end of the period. The Walleye owned the third period as Barnes scored twice at 1:09 and 3:35 to pick up his second hat trick of the season and he finishes the year with 34 goals. Jenks (16th) completed his hat trick at 3:51, just 16 ticks after Barnes picked up his. Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson made 32 saves to win in his first professional start. Tyler Barnes has set a new Walleye single season points record with 74 surpassing the previous record held by Andy Bohmbach (72) in 2010-11. Tonight was the first time in Walleye history that two players have had hat tricks in the same game.
