Manchester United team predicted for Champions League last-16 clash vs Paris Saint-Germain. Manchester United strolled to caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's 10th win in 11 games on Saturday with a comfortable victory over Fulham. A brace from Paul Pogba and an excellent individual strike from Anthony Martial saw United run out 3-0 winners and climb into the top four for the first time since the opening day of the season. Playing 19th placed Fulham gave Solskjaer an opportunity to rest some key players ahead of the return of the Champions League on Tuesday night, when French champions PSG travel to Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Victor Lindelof, Ashley Young were all completely rested while Eric Bailly came on for the last five minutes. PSG, however, have had no such luxuries coming into the clash. The Ligue 1 giants will be without world's most expensive footballer, Neymar, and could also have Edinson Cavani and Thomas Meunier unavailable. For United, one position that won't change is the goalkeeper slot. David De Gea, who managed to come through an altercation with Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in one piece, will start in goal. Only Luke Shaw is likely to keep his place in defence from the Fulham game with Young, Bailly and Lindelof - who didn't travel to Craven Cottage after picking up a knock but should be fine for Tuesday - all coming back in to the side. The midfield, however, could be completely unchanged. Much has been made of the improvements of United's attackers under Solskjaer but the marked rises in form of Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera in the middle of the park has been vital in the Reds' resurgence. PLAYER RATINGS: How we marked United's team OPINION: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer learns from his mistake in Manchester United win TEAM NEWS: Manchester United coach Solskjaer hints at team changes vs Paris Saint-Germain NEWS: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer meets Avram Glazer after Manchester United win vs Fulham NEWS: Pogba pinpoints the key games in Man Utd's top four battle FAN CHANT: Fans change Mourinho chant for Solskjaer HIGHLIGHTS: Our live coverage from Craven Cottage With Matic offering protection by sitting in front of the defence and Herrera pushing up the pitch to win the ball United finally have a solid foundation for Pogba to flourish and showcase the talent that everyone knows he has. All three should line up again against PSG and with the midfield being the Parisians weak point they could really punish them, too. Then in attack Solskjaer could name his most potent forward contingent for the first time since January 19. Martial started his first game since the 2-1 victory over Brighton on Saturday and got through 70 minutes unscathed, capping off his performance with a fine individual goal that had echoes of Cristiano Ronaldo. With the Frenchman showing no signs of rustiness after his short lay-off, he will no doubt play alongside Rashford and Lingard in attack as United look to take a big advantage into the away leg on March 6. Predicted Manchester United XI vs PSG: De Gea; Young, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw; Herrera, Matic, Pogba; Lingard, Rashford, Martial. Predicted Substitutes: Romero, Jones, Dalot, McTominay Mata, Sanchez, Lukaku.
#BraxtonBeverly #NextOnes Braxton Beverly hit a three-pointer to beat the buzzer, capping No. 21 N.C. State's rally in the final seconds to stun Clemson 69-67 this afternoon. The Wolfpack (16-4, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed by six with 26.5 seconds left, but Clemson missed four straight free throws to keep the door ajar. After Marcquise Reed missed two free throws with 7.5 seconds left, the Wolfpack strolled right through it. N.C. State: There's been a simple pattern for State throughout the month of January: win one, lose one. There had been the loss to rival North Carolina after beating Miami, the loss to Wake Forest after beating Pittsburgh, and Thursday's loss at No. 23 Louisville after winning at Notre Dame. The pattern held in dramatic fashion. And State also got good news with the return of Markell Johnson after the junior guard had missed three straight games following a hard fall in the first half against Pitt. Johnson's three-point play with 19 seconds left made Beverly's winner possible. German second seed Angelique Kerber easily won the battle of left-handers against big-hitting Brazilian qualifier Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2 6-3 to stroll into the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday. The Wimbledon champion broke the 22-year-old Haddad Maia twice in the opening set and converted her first set point when the Brazilian sent a forehand wide for her 29th unforced error in the set. Kerber, a triple Grand Slam champion who won in Melbourne in 2016, faced just one breakpoint in the match in the second set and converted her first opportunity in the eighth game to go 5-3 up and serve for the set. 'I think it was a good match from my side. I was trying to play aggressive from the first point until the last one, serving good, really focusing on the moment on court,' Kerber told reporters. 'I think I was playing good, especially in the second set, it was a little bit close.' The strongly-built six-feet tall Brazilian saved 10 breakpoints in the first set, six of them in the sixth game for a hold, and hit more winners than Kerber. However, she was undone by her erratic shot making. Haddad Maia cut down on her unforced errors in the second set and made Kerber work harder as the rallies grew longer. The second set went on serve till Kerber broke to go up when Haddad Maia sent a forehand wide. Another wide forehand groundstroke from the Brazilian gave Kerber the match on the Rod Laver Arena. 'She's also a lefty, so it's always a little bit different to play. Then she was serving good. She really hits the ball hard and tough,' Kerber added. 'So I was trying to get a lot of balls back. Also, like I said, being aggressive. I think she's a good player, she really played well.' Former world No 1 Kerber will next meet Australian wildcard Kimberly Birrell, who earlier ousted 29th seeded Donna Vekic 6-4 4-6 6-1, on Friday while also celebrating her 31st birthday. 'Maybe it's a good omen to play on my birthday,' Kerber said.
*READ* After calming a bit down I and reflecting, taking into account that Valverde and the team had to risk a little due to these intense heavy two months, I guess a 2-1 result is not as bad as it can be. The level of concentration and focus is still not as good as it should be and let’s hope this doesn’t reflect on the second leg. Still there are plenty of ways Barcelona can easily progress to the next stage without even a scratch, 2-0, 1-0, etc. And one more thing, Coutinho’s situation is really worrying, he is faaaar from his normal level and it’s starting to bug me a little bit. His and Aleña’s position in this game has to be one of the most demanding in any system. These two interior midfielders have to run and cover up a lot of space to try and gain positional superiority via runs away from the opposition. And today WOOOW. Coutinho was having a stroll. Not good enough. He didn’t make himself available. This has to improve. One of the worst matches so far from him, but I don’t know how far we can weigh it since this team has never play together before and will probably never play again. Wanna keep In-form? Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez will start for Manchester United against Reading in the FA Cup. Lukaku missed Solskjaer's first two games in charge against Cardiff and Huddersfield on compassionate grounds but emerged off the bench to score in the wins over Bournemouth and Newcastle. Sanchez, who suffered a hamstring injury in November, returned for his first appearance in over a month at Newcastle on Wednesday night and assisted Marcus Rashford's clincher at St James's Park. Solskjaer has only made two changes to United's front three in his four matches so far but is expected to rotate heavily for the visit of Reading, who are second from bottom in the Championship. "Definitely, there'll be a few changes and they'll get a chance," Solskjaer added. "Some of them are itching now to play of course, get Lukaku a start, get Sanchez a start, that's important for them because they need more game time." However, Solskjaer's last career game was in the 2007 final defeat to Chelsea at the new Wembley. The two-time FA Cup winner used to watch finals on television in Norway and Solskjaer intends to try to equal Arsenal's 13 FA Cups. "We're about wining trophies and the FA Cup final is such a fantastic one to play in," Solskjaer added. "I played in the 1999 one at Wembley and after having watched so many FA Cup finals as a kid, to be able to walk from the dressing room and up to the pitch was fantastic. I've seen so many times in Norway. "And that's what we hope for, get to the final. Whatever competition you're in, you want to win at a club like this and you expect, if not to win it, that's more or less what you expect from a club like this and players we've got."
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sets Manchester United record with win over Huddersfield. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has adjusted to life back at Manchester United as if he never left and set a club record as the side strolled to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Huddersfield. Nemanja Matic found the net from close-range to break the deadlock in the 28th minute and a pair of second-half strikes from a rampant Paul Pogba put the Red Devils out of sight at Old Trafford. Mathias Jorgensen pulled a goal back for Huddersfield at the death but it was too little, too late and United held on for the win to close the gap on Chelsea to five points. Pogba, who lost his place in the side towards the end of Jose Mourinho’s tenure, was playing with energy and drive once again on Boxing Day. The Frenchman has clearly got his mojo back.
