Not for India fans. Their team defeated Australia 4-1 in a T20I series a week ago. Their team lost a World Cup final three weeks ago. What appears is that even if their team doesn’t have the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami for a series or two the crowd proudly wears the blue jersey to witness them play consistent cricket. India now face South Africa in a three-match T20I series beginning Sunday (December 10) at Kingsmead Durban. The second T20I will be played on December 12 at St George's Park Gqeberha while the third and final game is scheduled for December 14 at New Wanderers Stadium Johannesburg. In the absence of Rohit and the injured Hardik Pandya Suryakumar Yadav will be the stand-in skipper. It’s pertinent to mention that Suryakumar led India in the T20Is against Australia too. Shubman Gill who was rested for the Australia series is back in the mix. Both Rohit and Virat Kohli requested a break from the white-ball leg of the tour after a jam-packed three months. Ravindra Jadeja makes a return and so do Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj. Jadeja is also named vice-captain for the series. India will know they need a complete team performance against South Africa who’ll be high on confidence after some dominating displays in the ODI World Cup. Kagiso Rabada and Temba Bavuma have been left out. Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen will miss the third T20I. The mentioned players aim to focus on the high-octane two-match Test series against India starting December 26. Lungi Ngidi who initially was part of the T20I squad for the opening two games has been ruled out of the entire series due to a left ankle sprain. Ngidi is being closely monitored. Skipper Aiden Markram Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller form a strong Protea middle-order. Meanwhile Anrich Nortje and Wayne Parnell continue to recover from their stress fracture and shoulder issue respectively. Both teams missing some key players may not be a bad thing because it will allow them to test those who are otherwise on the bench. Since the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 India have competed in six T20I series against five different opponents. They beat New Zealand (2) Sri Lanka Ireland and Australia but lost to the Windies. At the Asian Games India didn’t drop a game. The final against Afghanistan was washed out. By the virtue of being the top-seeded team India won the gold medal. After suffering a group-stage exit at the last year’s World T20 South Africa have played only two 3-match T20I series three games each against Australia and the West Indies. The Proteas suffered a 3-0 whitewash at the hands of Australia. The 2021 T20 World Cup champions while they lost 2-1 to the two-time winners (in 2012 and 2016) Windies. South Africa vs India 1st T20I Which team will come out on top? Cloudy with a chance of rain. That followed the Australians finding a way to humble hitherto unbeaten India in the ODI World final in Ahmedabad on November 19. India's men's side have offered an answer to that question by claiming four victories in the five T20Is they played against Australia in the past not quite three weeks. What to expect: A slowish but fair surface which could be enlivened by the 15 millimetres of rain that has been forecast for a stormy morning. Anticipate also a farewell for Wilson Ngobese who joined Kingsmead's ground staff in 1975 and has been the head curator since 1999. This will be Ngobese's last international pitch. Can teams move past the blow of failing to win an ODI World Cup with success in mere T20Is? Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. The umpires and players are making their way to the middle. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill walk down the stairs to open for India. South Africans are in a huddle before they take their respective fielding positions. Earlier in the day the toss was delayed due to wet outfield the match was reduced to 40 overs a side. India won the toss and opted to bowl first Quinton de Kock and Janneman Malan walked out to open the batting for South Africa. Avesh Khan and Mohammed Siraj took the new ball for India and used the overhead conditions very well. The duo was making the ball talk swinging it both ways making life hard for the South African openers there were plenty of plays and misses in the initial stage but de Kock and Malan did well to bat through it and slowly but steadily started accumulating runs. Shardul Thakur was introduced into the attack and got the first breakthrough dismissing Janneman Malan for 22 of 42. Temba Bavuma walked out to bat and failed once again he was dismissed by Shardul on 8 after facing 12 deliveries his poor run of form continues. Markram was dismissed on a duck by Kuldeep Yadav At this point South Africa were 3 down with 71 runs on the board. De Kock and Klaasen steadied the ship Ravi Bishnoi who is making his debut was slightly wayward initially allowing the batters to sweep and cut he was bowling a bit too quick on a pitch that was turning square. He made the corrections and got the big wicket of de Kock who was just 2 runs away from his 50 after facing 54 balls. David Miller joined Klaasen in the middle and together they stitched a brilliant partnership and took South Africa past the 200 runs mark. Both got to their respective fifties and changed their gears towards the end smashing bowlers all around the park!! There were a couple of catches dropped by the Indian side which eventually cost them an extra 10-20 runs. Miller finished with an unbeaten 75 of 63 alongside Klaasen who remained not out as well on 74 of 65 South Africa got to 249/4 in their allowed over of 40. Shardul Thakur was the pick of the bowlers for India he finished with 2 for 35 of his 8 overs. Kuldeep and Bishnoi picked up a wicket each Bishnoi was a bit expensive giving away 69 runs of his 8 overs. Siraj and Avesh went wicketless. With dew expected to kick in the latter half of the game this chase should be straightforward for India. Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. A series that will be a great lead-up going into the World Cups! India and South Africa are two giants of the game of cricket. India is a powerhouse especially in their own backyard. On the other hand South Africa are in a transition phase but make no mistake they are a side full of talented players. The last time these two sides met in India earlier this year we witnessed a historic series which ended 2-2. As stated earlier the Proteas are no pushovers and this series certainly provides a perfect opportunity for India to test their playing XI against a quality side. Even the great England white-ball side failed against this South African team a few months earlier. Let's be honest India have a lot of chinks in their armour to deal with. The batting lineup is relatively sorted but the bowling has surely given nightmares to skipper Rohit Sharma. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has blown cold in the last few games. Bumrah has just returned from injury and is looking like a pale shadow of himself. Arshdeep is a bright spot but even he's inexperienced. The bowling needs a bit of tweak if India are to seal the series. South Africa boasts a strong bowling unit that will test this great Indian batting lineup. The likes of Rabada Parnell and Shamsi are world class bowlers and the Indian team can't take them lightly. The T20I series is about to start so who will come out on top? What to expect: Only two T20Is have been played at this venue and only one of them a full 20-overs-a-side affair in 2019. There's no threat of rain for Wednesday with cloudy skies and temperatures in the late 20s. Team News India Injuries/Availability: Mohammed Shami hasn't travelled for the first T20I and is still out after recently missing the Australia series due to covid. Deepak Hooda too is not ready due to a back injury. India will be without Bhuvneshwar and Hardik Pandya in this series who will undergo conditioning-related training at the NCA in Bengaluru in the lead-up to next month's World Cup. Tactics & Matchups: With Hardik not available these three games offer Pant the chance to prove he has more to offer to this Indian side than just his left-handedness as the team has shown a tendency to prefer Dinesh Karthik over him in recent games. Yuzvendra Chahal who has had the wood over the left-handed Quinton de Kock in T20s will also look for an upturn in form following ordinary outings against Australia. Team News South Africa Injuries/Availability: Bavuma returns after a three-month layoff courtesy an elbow injury that he sustained on South Africa's previous tour of India in June. Tactics & Matchups: Wayne Parnell who picked a five-wicket haul in his last T20I in August could trouble India's right-hander dominated top-order who've all had issues against left-arm pace. On the batting front South Africa will hope Quinton de Kock and David Miller can take the lead in blunting India's in-form spinner Axar Patel owing to their match-up superiority.
