Two of the most dynamic personalities will square off on Saturday, August 22, live on DAZN PPV and Prime Video when Rolly Romero puts the WBA welterweight title at stake against former two-division world champion Teofimo Lopez from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) last competed in May 2025 when he knocked down and defeated Ryan Garcia to win the WBA (regular) welterweight belt at Times Square in New York City. He got elevated to full champion status after Jaron "Boots" Ennis moved up to 154 pounds. After a proposed bout with Devin Haney fell through, the focus shifted to "The Takeover". Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) is making his debut at 147 pounds. Normally, a bout to get accustomed to the weight happens. But Lopez wanted to jump right into the fire against Romero. He looks to get back on track in a big way and become a three-division world champion after losing his WBO and Ring Magazine belts to Shakur Stevenson in January. WBA welterweight champion Rolando āRollyā Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) and former two-division champion Teofimo Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) went face to face Thursday at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles to officially announce their 12-round world title fight Saturday, August 22 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout headlines a PBC pay-per-view promoted by TGB Promotions in association with Takeover Promotions. The press conference opened with the announcement of a distribution agreement between PBC and DAZN that will bring PBC fight nights to the platform worldwide, with the August 22 pay-per-view also available on Prime Video. WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora, WBA featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa, interim WBC middleweight champion Jesus Ramos Jr. and IBF bantamweight champion Jose Salas Reyes appeared as part of that portion of the program. Normally, a fight promotion involves animosity of some sort. Reasons are sometimes known. Sometimes they are not. In the case of Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez at Thursday's press conference to promote their Aug. 22 DAZN PPV headliner, the exchanges were friendly, but there was an underlying tension between the two. Things started early when Romero was talking, and Lopez's father, Teofimo Sr., was going back and forth. Teofimo Sr. said that after the two had trained in the past, they stopped hearing from Romero after he lost to Gervonta Davis in May 2022. As the presser went on, the talk was calm, and the tension seemed to have soothed. Lopez provided a different account. "We are kinda like beating around the bush of it," Lopez said of the animosity. "The time is up. We got to fight each other. We got to settle it in the ring. Thatās why itās a real manās sport. If you got problems, you settle it in the boxing ring." The cool, calm, and collected Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) appeared to have a different perspective. Although it was hard to tell with Romero's sarcasm throughout the press conference, which included the WBA welterweight champion receiving a duck stuffed animal from Lopez that the native of Las Vegas quipped was WBO champion, Devin Haney. "Me and Teo aināt friends," Romero said. "Heās my little brother at the end of it. If Iām to lose this belt or to defend my belt, Iād rather have it be with him than anyone else. Only God knows whatās going to happen." Teofimo Lopez is looking to regain his world champion status when he challenges WBA (Super) welterweight champion Rolando Romero in August, but āThe Takeoverā already knows the fight that he wants to come after that outing. Lopez dethroned lineal champions in Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor when he claimed world honours at lightweight and super-lightweight respectively, but he was outclassed by Shakur Stevenson back in January ā losing his WBO 140lb title by a wide unanimous decision. The Brooklyn-based 28-year-old has wasted no time in thrusting himself back into the mix though, accepting a shot at Romeroās WBA world title upon his 147lb debut, seeking to become a three-division world champion. In an interview with Ring Magazine, Lopez looked ahead to the fight and admitted that Romeroās awkwardness is what makes him a difficult obstacle, and highlighted it as the reason why he was able to trump Ryan Garcia last year. Errol Spence Jrās return to boxing against Tim Tszyu will be available through DAZN pay-per-view and thus to DAZN Ultimate tier subscribers, along with Premier Boxing Championsā usual Prime Video PPV home. The good news for those with DAZNās Ultimate tier subscription is that they now have to pay nothing extra to easily and legally watch Spence vs Tszyu, which will air on Saturday, July 25. Spence (28-1, 22 KO) will be fighting for the first time in three years, nearly to the day, after his 2023 loss to Terence āBudā Crawford, which was a one-sided thrashing. The former welterweight titleholder is moving up to 154 lbs and going on the road to face Australiaās Tszyu (27-3, 18 KO), who is 3-3 in his last six fights but still has an ability to bring action. The undercard will feature another return, as Jermall Charlo comes back to face Koen Mazoudier, and a super featherweight bout between Stephen Fulton and Liam Wilson. Tim Tszyu has cranked up the mind games ahead of his July 26 showdown with Errol Spence Jr in Sydney, suggesting the American is staring down a career-ending night. With just 25 days to go, Tszyu believes Spenceās long-awaited return from a near three-year layoff will end in brutal fashion ā and be the final fight of his career. Spence is finally back after his 2023 defeat to Terence Crawford, stepping up to a new weight without a tune-up fight against what Roy Jones Jr this week described as a āhighly dangerousā opponent. Tszyu, though, reckons the comeback wonāt last long. āItās the last hurrah for Errol Spence,ā Tszyu told Ring Magazine. āGet in and watch his last fight.ā āThe Truthā has spoken about looking forward to the trip Down Under, even discussing holiday destinations and life beyond boxing. Former world champion and commentator Sergio Mora believes thatās a red flag heading into a fight with Tszyu ā and the Australian couldnāt agree more. āIf heās already talking about holidays and retirement plans, then this is his last goodbye,ā said Tszyu. Tension between the pair has been simmering, with Spence sensationally refusing to shake Tszyuās hand during a backroom encounter in Las Vegas in May. Terence Crawford will be ringside to watch Errol Spence Jrās comeback fight against Tim Tszyu. The fight marks Spenceās long-awaited return after three years out of the ring. The former unified welterweight champion has not fought since suffering the only defeat of his professional career, a ninth-round stoppage loss to Crawford in their undisputed showdown in 2023. Now 36, Spence moves up in weight to face Tszyu at a 158lb catchweight, having linked up with renowned trainer Ronnie Shields following the end of his long partnership with Derrick James. Tszyu enters the bout in far more active form. The Australian has rebuilt after consecutive defeats to Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev, recording back-to-back victories. He will look to use the home crowd to his advantage. Speaking on The Porterway Podcast, āBudā confirmed that he would be in attendance for the fight and backing his former rival to win, something he has already told Tszyu. āIāmma be supporting Spence, rooting [for him]. I just like to support fighters ⦠Of course [Iām picking Spence to win]. I told [Tsyzu] to his face.ā Spence has admitted that he did consider retirement during his time off, and also that he may consider it again, win, lose or draw. Fans will be watching closely to see how he looks after such a long time out, with many already having written him off after injuries, lifestyle and a serious car accident. The fight takes place on July 25 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, with Jermall Charlo and Stephen Fulton booked for the undercard. Errol Spence Jr. is an American professional boxer. He is a former unified champion in the welterweight division, having held the World Boxing Association (WBA) (Super version), World Boxing Council (WBC), and International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles between 2017 and 2023. As an amateur, in the welterweight division, he won three consecutive United States national championships and represented the U.S. at the 2012 Olympics, where he reached the quarter-finals. In 2015, Spence was named Prospect of the Year by ESPN.
