Mallorca vs. Real Madrid result: Karim Benzema, Vinicius combo extends La Liga lead to 10 points
Mallorca vs. Real Madrid result: Karim Benzema, Vinicius combo extends La Liga lead to 10 points Real Madrid survived 45 minutes of a physical slugfest to outlast Mallorca on the road, with two goals and an assist from talisman Karim Benzema to win its 20th match of the season and go 10 points clear at the top of the Spanish La Liga table. Vinicius Junior was also a key contributor, scoring the opening goal and winning the penalty that Benzema eventually deposited for a 2-0 lead. Despite the three points that pushed the club closer to the La Liga title, it wasn’t all sunshine and roses for Los Blancos, who will be sweating a few key injuries ahead of next weekend’s El Clasico. Most notably, Benzema came limping off a few minutes after his second goal, leaving Carlo Ancelotti with a headache ahead of the season’s marquee matchup. Mallorca vs. Real Madrid final score 1H 2H Final Mallorca 0 0 0 Real Madrid 0 3 3 Goals: 55th min — RMA — Vinicius Jr. 77th min — RMA — Benzema (pen) 82nd min — RMA — Benzema Final: Mallorca 0, Real Madrid 3 It was a bruising, physical test for the La Liga leaders, but ultimately they passed the test. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. were the stars, and Real Madrid now has one hand on the La Liga trophy with a 10-point lead and only 10 matches remaining. While the three points are valuable, the injuries are worrying with El Clasico less than a week away. Benzema's status will be the most watched of those who were forced off early 1st min: We have kicked off on the island of Mallorca! Halftime: Mallorca 0, Real Madrid 0 A true slobbernocker through the first 45 minutes, Mallorca did its best to muck up the game, and was quite successful in doing so. Vinicius Jr. in particular was frustrated through the first half, unsuccessful on any of his first five dribble attempts, but he grew into the game towards the halftime whistle. Both teams tackled well, and interventions at both ends by Pablo Maffeo and Nacho Fernandez were critical. All things considered, Mallorca had the best chances and should be in front. We'll see if Madrid takes advantage of the hosts' failure to secure chances. 55th min: GOAL! Real Madrid! Vinicius Jr. has been the best Madrid player in the match, and he's the one on the scoresheet. Vazquez picks Baba's pocket, and Vinicius deposits it into the back of the net on a feed from Benzema. It's a similar opener to what happened against PSG, where Madrid charged down the opposition on lazy possession. Mallorca was screaming for a foul on the change of possession, but a quick VAR check waves off the protests. Vazquez and Baba both fell clumsily to ground, but the slow-motion shows that Vazquez actually trips over Baba's leg, not the other way around. Good goal, and Madrid has the breakthrough. 76th min: PENALTY, Real Madrid! The visitors break effortlessly 3-on-2, and Vinicius is clearly shoved in the back in the box by Olivan. It's the easiest call the referee will ever have to make, a "playground shove" as the ESPN commentators put it, arms extended for all to see. It's senseless foul, because Vinicius didn't look like he was getting to Benzema's cut-back pass. Benzema steps up...GOAL, Real Madrid! The Frenchman slots it home, sending Rico the wrong way, and Madrid is surely through with all three points. 82nd min: GOAL, Real Madrid! Marcelo's on for two minutes and he as an assist. Two veterans combine, as the 33-year-old Brazilian delivers a pinpoint cross to the head of the 34-year-old Benzema who rises high to power home the header. Mallorca has sunk since the opener, and this one is well and truly over. That's 22 goals this season for Benzema to go along with his 11 assists, more goal contributions than any other player in the top European leagues this season. Final: Mallorca 0, Real Madrid 3 It was a bruising, physical test for the La Liga leaders, but ultimately they passed the test. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. were the stars, and Real Madrid now has one hand on the La Liga trophy with a 10-point lead and only 10 matches remaining. Squirt Top Trail - Trek 2 Teebus
The far-away and fabulous corner of the Karoo where the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Free State cosy up to each other utterly blows my mind. This oft-forgotten piece of South Africa is a space where wasteland and heartland collide, fusing a rich history which is unfortunately being eroded – slowly, but surely – by urbanisation, rural neglect and the economic collapse so typical of the platteland. A ghost town – with an Olympic-sized pool – decays in the shadow of #Teebus Peak; Paul Kruger’s old house lies locked and forgotten off the R53; the Bulhoek Pass is pot-holed, overgrown and closed to regular traffic; Steynsburg has the post-apocalyptic feel of a dorp from one of Deon Meyer’s novels … And yet, the area brims with heart-warming richness and diversity… Characters – like Oom Charles (ask him about his gunshot wound) – are larger than life, and country hospitality overwhelms you around every corner. What’s more, the Trek2Teebus route and landscape promise to blow your mind. It is a ‘Country Crank’ on remote tracks and farm roads tripping beyond the Teebus and Koffiebus kopjes looming up from golden swathes of savanna grassland. You will be in your element as you weave amidst nguni cattle or meander through endless fields of mauve irises. This is mountain biking heaven, and you need to lay tracks here if you event want to begin to understand the attraction of this wonderful space. As an Eastern Cape son, to me it was like coming home, I suppose. The Baviaans River Conservancy where I grew up is but a couple of hours away, and I felt like a 58yr old kid let loose within a familiar outdoor playground. Rooigras seeds in your socks, the Lego jumble of ysterklip koppies, the whistle of wild rhebuck in the highland ridges, the smell of the fertile red soil … it all felt comfortably familiar. How Did He Get THIS Open?! *GENIUS PLAY*
This is one of the most creative play calls that you’ll ever see. Follow D'angelo Russell as he’s gonna set a screen under the basket, and then sprint towards the 3 point line using the pick from Towns. But this is a familiar play so at this moment you can see Jae Crowder is signaling that he’ll switch it- waiting for D-Lo to come out. But then watch what Russell does here, as he uses Towns like a kid using a metal pole when playing tag. So he swings around the big man and launches himself towards the basket getting a completely wide open layup. As we watch the replay again, I gotta say that this brought me back to my childhood days on the playground so shoutout to Chris Finch for this play design. And I’ve got a bunch more of these all from last night. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Keep your eyes on Zach Lavine here for all of the running on this play. He starts from the corner, going around the screen as if he’ll get another one under the basket for a 3 point look outside. That’s what the Bulls convince the defense anyway as Rondo goes out to meet him, buut Javonte Green turns 180 to set the real screen here, as Lavine comes back to get the ball and as the defense tries to recover, Zach finds the open man under the basket for the finish. Check out again the misdirection that Chicago was able to execute on this play and get a bucket inside. Right here for the Knicks, we keep an eye on Topin and Quickley. First they screen for each other, and although they don’t get the switch, the play continues with Quickley coming to the elbow, and Topin on the curl. They meet right here on the back screen which opens up the flight zone for the big man who is already with a full head of steam. So D-Rose lobs it up and Obi throws down the alley oop. The Madison Square Garden crowd loved it, and ya boi loved it of course, as I’ll take any chance I get to feature my Knicks in a video. Moving on. On this out of bounds play Buddy Hield sets a back screen for Metu, who looks to cut to the rim. Thing is, that’s a decoy as he spins and goes to the other side, making it confusing the defense and making it hard to switch it. So with an open lane, the weak side help has to react, which leaves Harisson Barnes alone in the corner for the three point shot and he splashes it. What’s funny is that he got a great look and didn’t even have to move a single step from that corner as you can see on this replay. Next, after the Magic deny the initial pick and roll attack from Atlanta, the Hawks go to their secondary option here with Bogdanovic going for a pick that he will actually slip and continue to run to get here. At the same time Capella comes out to screen for him so that Bogdan gets a wide open look. The Serbian could have easily shot this, but he saw Reddish in the corner and felt that he would have an even better look, which I guess was the right decision because ultimately this ends with a three. Nice quick recovery for Atlanta after the initial defense from Orlando, and the unselfish play from Bogdanovic with the extra pass to Reddish. And finally, I’ll roll the play first then explain as it’s comical how open Rubio got despite running pretty slow on this play. Look at all this space on the shot. What happened was that he faked the screen for Garland. You can see his man signaling that this would be a switch, but there was never any screen to switch as Rubio continued his light jog all the way outside. And the fact that Langford doesn’t even try to recover here, makes things that much easier for the Cavs. I gotta admit this video had some of the more interesting play calls in a while. Let me know which one was your favorite. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
