The Washington Nationals shortstop was hit in the family jewels by an errant pickoff attempt from a Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher. Escobar immediately collapsed to the ground, wincing for a brief moment in pain. Every guy has been drilled in the groin by something, whether that be a hand, a foot, a knee, or some other force producing extremity. But a baseball? That’s a pain that one only knows from experience. #Nuts #Balls #Highlights
With Nick Solak batting, Jonah Heim gets picked off of second base. The Rangers challenge the call, and Heim ends up safe at second.
When the Czech Republic and Sweden met at the European Championship it was a comedy of errors, combined with inexperience, that created one heck of a game to watch... no matter whose flag you were cheering under. In spite of the 4 errors committed by Sweden on defense, only 1 of the runs against was unearned at the end of the day. That's not to say those errors weren't costly. In the first inning alone a throwing error helped the lead off runner reach. On the next play, that same runner advanced on a failed pickoff attempt. He, and the batter that followed him, came around on the following play making his run the only one the Czech dugout failed to earn on their own. Though Sweden seemed to have settled in after that, fielding and pitching issues resurfaced in the 8th. After the first two batters walked to reach, a single combined with a throwing error allowed one of them to come home. A HBP and a sacrifice later and that second gimme crossed the plate as well. The Czech defense also let one across unearned in the 7th after a fielder's choice completed the circle when a throwing error allowed the leadoff runner to continue advancing. Swedens pen did not hold up their end of the defensive bargain either. They walked 5, hit one and threw wild twice, while striking out just 4 batters between 4 pitchers. On the hill for the Czech Republic it was Jan Tomek with the win. Over 6.0 innings of work he gave up just 1 earned run off 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6. As for offense there wasn't a whole lot left for the batters to be given credit. Base running, now that was fun to watch; but with just a double and a triple standing out for extra bases, one on each bench, the rest was just small ball gone horribly wrong, or right, depending on your angle.
