Pakistan is in Group 2 and will open their campaign against India on 24 October at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. From the squad that was announced on 4 September and after taking into consideration player performances and form, the selectors have made three changes. Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haider Ali have replaced Azam Khan and Mohammad Hasnain respectively, while Fakhar Zaman, who was originally named as a travel reserve, has swapped places with Khushdil Shah. The decision on Sohaib Maqsood’s inclusion in the squad will be made following medical advice. The top-order batter underwent MRI scans for the lower back after the 6 October National T20 match against Northern and missed Thursday’s Punjab derby against Central Punjab. Siamo fuori dal Palace, la casa dei Detroit Pistons, una delle squadre che ha scritto la storia della NBA. Dennis Rodman, uno dei giocatori di quel team, si trova nel parcheggio all’interno della sua auto. Quel giovane timido e introverso, sì avete capito bene timido e introverso, ha un fucile in mano e se lo sta puntando sotto il mento. Il mondo gli sta crollando addosso, tutto quello in cui aveva creduto sta svanendo. È davvero la fine? O il punto di partenza per un nuovo inizio? Per scoprirlo bisogna partire dal principio. Provando a conoscere una delle personalità più affascinanti, se non la più affascinante che sia mai esista nel mondo dello sport. Questa è la storia di Dennis “The Worm” Rodman. Dennis Keith Rodman nasce a Trenton in New Jersey da Shirley e Philander Rodman. La sua vita è complicata fin da subito, perché all’età di 3 anni il padre lascia la famiglia, non vuole saperne di crescere il piccolo Dennis e le due figlie più grandi Debra e Kim. Shirley decide di spostarsi a Dallas, ad Oak Cliff uno dei quartieri più poveri della città. Dennis cresce in quel luogo insieme a 3 donne. È un bambino timido, non parla molto. Per andare a scuola devono trascinarlo sull’autobus. Vuole stare sempre con la madre che però svolgendo 3 lavori per mantenere la famiglia, non riesce a dargli le giuste attenzioni. Sente la mancanza di una figura paterna. Vive in simbiosi con le due sorelle che diventano il suo punto di riferimento, ovunque vadano lo portano con loro. Debra e Kim si divertono con lui, a volte lo vestono anche da donna per gioco. Crescendo in quell’ambiente diventa sempre più strano, è diverso da tutti gli altri e si vede. Il suo aspetto fisico non lo aiuta, non è tanto alto, è magro e ha le orecchie a sventola. A scuola infatti le cose vanno male, viene bullizzato e lui non contrattacca mai. La madre, per quel problema, è addirittura costretta a fargli cambiare istituto ma Dennis non riesce comunque a farsi degli amici. Prova ad avvicinarsi al basket ma nei playground è quasi sempre uno spettatore e viene tagliato dalla squadra della scuola. Prova a giocare a football ma finisce nello stesso modo. Non trova il suo posto. In casa cresce all’ombra delle sue sorelle che sono alte e forti, tanto che entrambe giocano a basket e riescono ad ottenere una borsa di studio per il college. Debra in futuro militerà nel campionato italiano. Lui non è mai al centro dell’attenzione. Si fa notare solo per una cosa, quando gioca a flipper alla sala giochi si muove in continuazione, non riesce mai a stare fermo. Alcuni ragazzi lo notano e lo soprannominano “The Worm” il verme. Si porterà dietro quel nickname per tutta la vita. È un momento complicato per lui. Non capisce qual è la sua direzione. Si diploma con difficoltà, dovendo frequentare i corsi estivi. Fatica a farsi accettare e cresce con un complesso di inferiorità. Terminata l’high school si ritrova a casa e senza lavoro. Trova un impiego all’aeroporto come addetto alle pulizie e lì, in uno dei negozi, ruba 50 orologi. Le telecamere lo riprendono e lui finisce nella prigione aeroportuale. Schedato e spaventato piange disperatamente. La madre decide di lasciarlo lì una notte per insegnargli una lezione. Viene denunciato ma subito dopo le accuse vengono ritirate. Il motivo? Dennis non ha provato a vendere gli orologi bensì li ha regalati alle persone che conosce. Vuole piacere alla gente “Non ho guadagnato un dollaro. Non ci ho nemmeno provato. Li ho semplicemente regalati perché cercavo di farmi accettare” ricorda. Prova a farsi piacere dalle persone in tutti modi, a volte anche sbagliando. Sarà un’altra caratteristica che lo contraddistinguerà. Torna a casa ma è in difficoltà, non riesce a tenersi un lavoro e passa la maggior parte del tempo senza fare niente. La madre gli dà un ultimatum: o si trova un’occupazione stabile oppure lì con lei non può stare. Dennis così viene cacciato di casa, finisce a dormire sul divano di alcuni amici e poi per strada, al parco, dietro al supermercato. Di giorno gira per le vie della città a cercare cibo. Questa situazione dona al giovane due cose: una personalità unica che gli darà diversi problemi e una spinta, un’energia che difficilmente si vedrà nello sport professionistico.
