The Magpies had drawn first blood at St. James’ Park with the fastest goal of the Premier League season to date, Miguel Almirón gathering Joelinton’s pass before producing a calm finish from deep inside the penalty area. United failed to build on that early advantage, though, and allowed West Brom a route back into the game. After ending the first half on top, they equalised through Darnell Furlong shortly after the interval. However, the introduction of former Albion pair Dwight Gayle and Jacob Murphy would ultimately swing the pendulum back the Magpies’ way. With time starting to run out, Murphy swung in a delightful cross with his first meaningful involvement of the afternoon, and Gayle provided the finish with a thumping header. Several of Newcastle United players missed Friday's 2-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace and several of media outlets are claiming the squad have missed two days of trainings due to fears more of the players and staff have contracted more. It's believed the tally was five before the weekend, with the Magpies set to play Aston Villa as early as Friday, Steve Bruce could end having a depleted squad for the trip away to Villa Park. Newcastle manager Steve Bruce says they are starting to see the real Joelinton after the forward had a hand in two late goals in a win at Crystal Palace. The Brazilian set up Callum Wilson for the first in the 88th minute and added his side's second 99 seconds later. It was his first Premier League goal of the season and a third in the top flight since joining Newcastle for a club record £40m in July last year.
