Munster's Heineken Champions Cup Season So Far 2020/21
Munster secured a home clash against Toulouse in the Champions Cup last 16 after wins over Harlequins and Clermont Auvergne in the Pool stage of the competition. A 21-7 victory over Quins at Thomond was followed up with a magnificent 39-31 comeback win way to Clermont, the province's first-ever victory at Stade Marcel Michelin. #MunsterRugby #SUAF #ChampionsCup

Alors si Frédéric Antonetti a décidé de conserver l’esprit de sa base défensive, c’est au niveau du milieu et de l’attaque que l’on observe des modifications. Le coach messin a décidé de retirer un attaquant, pour renforcer le milieu terrain avec 4 éléments : Pajot – Sarr – Maïga – Boulaya . Le résultat est en dessous des attentes. Le FC Metz n’aura pas réussi à installer son jeu au milieu de terrain procédant trop souvent en jeu latéral ou en jeu long sur un Vagner trop isolé du reste de l’équipe. Pire, c’est le milieu lensois qui aura réussi à davantage installer son jeu, illustré notamment par le 2ème but de Lens par Cahuzac . Forcément des questions se posent sur la meilleure solution à adopter dans un tel match. Peut-être que les deux actions menant aux 2 buts messins sont des pistes qu’il fallait davantage développer au cours du match. En effet, ces deux buts interviennent après un positionnement haut du bloc messin, chose que Metz n’a pas assez faite puisque 19% des actions de jeu se sont déroulés dans le camp lensois. Il y a donc un sentiment un peu amer de ne pas avoir poussé l’idée jusqu’au bout pour pouvoir se rassurer davantage dans le match. Beaucoup de personnes ont présenté le poteau de Vagner à la 30ème minute comme le tournant du match. Alors bien sûr, ce raté fait très mal car Metz aurait pu mener 1-2 à ce moment-là. Cependant il ne faut pas oublier que peu importe la situation du match, cette équipe de Lens aurait continué à attaquer comme elle a l’habitude de le faire. Metz au final a encore une fois du revenir au score. C’est un scénario auquel Metz a dû faire face à 5 reprises sur les 10 derniers matchs depuis le début de la phase retour. C’est un jeu assez dangereux pratiqué par les messins.
