But James Milner equalised after the break from the penalty spot before Brajan Gruda’s 89th-minute winner turned the game around. Opening day specialist Erling Haaland bagged a brace while summer signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki scored on their Premier League debuts as City got off to the perfect start courtesy of a 4-0 opening day victory at Wolves. Haaland tapped home at the back post for the opener just past the half hour mark after a pinpoint cross from the left by Rico Lewis. Reijnders doubled our lead moments later after moving onto an Oscar Bobb through ball and producing a classy finish. Our No.9 Haaland, who has now scored on each of his four Premier League opening days, put the game beyond Wolves with a mesmeric move involving Reijnders and Bobb which ended with the clinical Norwegian firing past Jose Sa. Fellow new boy Cherki completed the scoring on a wonderful afternoon with a bullet drive just eight minutes after coming on. A sold-out crowd relished the opportunity to see our star-studded side in action, as well as greet their new manager Filippo Inzaghi. Erling Haaland opened the scoring midway through the first half with a powerful right-footed strike across goal before Tijjani Reijnders made the game safe in the second period. The Dutch international showed all his prowess in attacking areas with two fine finishes and could even have come away with a hat-trick if not for an unfortunate slip after rounding goalkeeper Alfred Gomis. All in all, it proved an excellent night’s work a week out from the top-flight’s return.
