W środowym spotkaniu 1/8 finału Fortuna Pucharu Polski Piast Gliwice przegrał z Górnikiem Zabrze po rzutach karnych i odpadł z rozgrywek. Po regulaminowym czasie gry i dogrywce wynik był bezbramkowy. Spotkanie w skrócie Lepiej w to spotkanie weszli piłkarze Piasta. Niebiesko-Czerwoni próbowali przedostawać się pod bramkę rywali, ale zagrożenie stwarzali poprzez stałe fragmenty gry. Po pierwszym kwadransie do głosu doszli goście. Podopieczni Jana Urbana mieli trzy sytuacje po dośrodkowaniach, ale dobrze w bramce spisywał się Frantisek Plach. W drugiej połowie więcej z gry mieli Niebiesko-Czerwoni, który grali agresywniej i lepiej od swoich rywali. Dobrze w mecz wszedł Arkadiusz Pyrka, który był aktywny na prawym skrzydle i próbował stwarzać sytuacje kolegom. Nieco zamieszania zrobił również kolejny z rezerwowych, czyli Rauno Sappinen. Estończyk starał się walczyć z obrońcami, jednak zabrakło kropki nad "i" w postaci bramki. W regulaminowym czasie gry i dogrywce nie padły gole, więc o końcowym rozstrzygnięciu zadecydowały rzuty karne. Najciekawsze akcje 12': Pierwszy celny strzał w tym spotkaniu. Jakub Szymański dopadł do odbitej piłki, ale pewnie interweniował Frantisek Plach. 26': Mateusz Cholewiak znalazł się w dobrej pozycji do strzału głową, ale bramkarz Piasta złapał piłkę. 27': Groźne uderzenie głową Piotra Krawczyka. Frantisek Plach instynktownie wybił piłkę i oddalił zagrożenie. 38': Dobrze zapowiadająca się akcja Piasta. Kamil Wilczek zdecydował się na strzał zza pola karnego, ale niestety nie trafił w światło bramki. 49': Świetne uderzenie Michała Chrapka! Bramkarz gości zdołał jednak wybić piłkę na rzut rożny. 58': Dwa strzały Jakuba Holubka.
