Fast Run-In To First Bunch Sprint | Tour Of Romandie Stage 2 Highlights
The difficulty of the day will be dictated almost entirely by whichever team decides to take up the work on the front of the peloton. With a blistering pace, a few stage favourites could be shelled out the back, otherwise we may see a breakaway succeed or a sprint unfold in Échallens. Topping out 11km before the finish, the final uncategorised climb is 4.8km-long and has a meagre average gradient of only 3.4%. Van der Poel kiest voor een lange en slopende finale Berekend koersen? Niets van als je Mathieu van der Poel heet. Op 90 kilometer van de finish schudde hij een eerste keer aan de boom, maar lang niet alle appels lagen tegen de grond. 20 kilometer later op Berg Ten Houte begonnen alle klokken wel te luiden. Tom Pidcock liet zijn ploegmaat Ben Turner brommeren, Van der Poel, Tiesj Benoot, Victor Campenaerts en Stefan Küng hadden hun huiswerk gemaakt. Op Berg Ten Houte rijden de sterkste mannen weg, Tadej Pogacar is niet mee. Welles-nietesspelletje met "menselijke" Pogacar Tadej Pogacar niet: na enkele hellingen als schaduw van Van der Poel had de Sloveen de slag gemist. Een slordigheid? Een gebrek aan parcourskennis? Of pap in de benen? Pogacar flitste niet, maar begon op de Kanarieberg dan toch een deuntje te fluiten. Het elitegroepje met Van der Poel kon bijna meezingen, maar Pogacar toonde zowaar dat hij een mens van vlees en bloed is. Na een ordinaire chasse patate vond hij even later toch weer zijn tweede adem in het gezelschap van onder meer Greg Van Avermaet, maar de kop van de koers lag niet meer binnen handbereik. Slotfase om duimen en vingers bij af te likken Daar raapten Van der Poel en tutti quanti de restanten van de vroege vlucht op, goed voor een finale met z'n achten. In een zinderend slot schoot Campenaerts twee vlijmscherpe pijlen af, de rest moest tot het gaatje gaan om in leven te blijven. Benoot was nog niet uitgeperst en plaatste kort voor de vod de sleutelversnelling, enkel Van der Poel wist nog van welke parochie hij was. Die van de winnaar, want in de sprint was Benoot kansloos na een heerlijk kat-en-muisspel.

Strongest Climbers Go Head To Head On Queen Stage | Paris Nice 2022 Stage 7 Highlights
Day seven’s Queen stage is all about its final 14.9km and the long grind to the summit of Col de Turini. An average gradient of 7.3% pushes this climb into the realms of the mountain goats and pure climbers, but its lack of double-digit ramps does mean that the diesel climbers could fare well too. Where the favourites will make their inevitable moves depends on how the GC is ordered at the start of the day. If they’re minutes behind the leaders then they’ll have to launch from the base, if they’re just a handful of seconds away then they could leave it until the last couple of kilometres.
