Here we go again! Everyone at this point last year made it this far. The cream has risen to the top, the contenders have eased passed the pretenders. And what do we have left in the Central? Komets versus Walleye...again... The Komets got to this point by making quick work of the Indy "Fishers" Fuel in round 1. Winning the series in 5 games with 2 shutouts to boot, one by each goaltender. The K's will be riding with Samuel Jonsson as their goalie of choice for the foreseeable future. He has been standing on his head this series with only 2 goals allowed in 2 games and a .961 save %. In the playoffs you need your goals to come from everyone, The Komets have been doing that. The snakebitten Leo, Indiana native Matthew Miller finally got his first home goal as a Komet in game 5 of the first round. Brady Stonehouse who had his fair share of tough luck has 3 goals and is a plus 3 thus far. Stoney is the type of sandpaper player that is built for the playoffs, and if he can keep up that scoring clip, then everyone should take note. Not to mention that the top guys are scoring as well, Austin Magera leads the playoffs with 7 assists to go with 3 goals. 2 Points per game is an insane clip regardless who the opponent is. Every Komet on the active playoff roster has recorded at least 1 game, a true sign of the team's depth. Maybe this year will be different, the Komets have the talent to make that elusive deep run that hasn't happened since they won it all back in 2021. They have not lost at home so far in the playoffs going a perfect 3-0 at home up to this point. The Toledo Walleye have had a slightly different road up to this point. They won their series in 6 games to the Bloomington Bison. To the surprise of very few, Brandon Hawkins leads the team in points with 8. One thing they have been doing well was tearing up Bloomington's defense. Scoring 24 goals in 6 games well distributed up and down the line-up. Take it with a grain of salt, because Bloomington was playing catch up mode most of the series, Carter Gylander has a sub .900 save percentage, although not by much. What is alarming is what was the 6th best PK in the league comes in the playoffs with a college failing grade at 64.3% (however, that would have passed my weighted Differential Equations class I had the displeasure to take in college.) The Komets special teams have been firing up at the right time, Toledo will need to find that regular season groove to keep up and to prove that they are not cooling off at the worst time possible. This series will be chaos, as it always is. With Toledo getting the best of Fort Wayne the last couple of times last year and back in 2019. That series last year was painful for Komets fans. A golden opportunity was squandered as the underdog team. Now The K's are the top seed with home ice advantage, now is the time to dethrone the Fish once and for all. For Toledo Walleye, the ever elusive Kelly Cup has been teasingly close. They would love to win this series to continue narratives against a division foe and to bring home Toledo's first hockey championship in 32 years.

Hey hey! Finally! A Komet Hockey playoff video! You all can stop asking and wondering, I finally did a Komets Playoff game. Itโs the Month of May, the Umamusumes did their running down in Louisville over the past weekend, which means weโre officially in my favorite time of year. Indy 500 Month, and the Komets are still playing hockey! Like last year, this video is all business (โallโ is a subjective termโฆ) letโs get into it. In the first round the Komets will take on the Indy โFishersโ Fuel. The first time the I-69 (nice) Rivalry has taken place in the postseason, in 1990-91 in the quarter finals of the Turner Cup playoffs. That series was full of carnage on the ice and in the stands with fans roughing up with each other and going the distance in seven games. That year was the First season of the Franke owned Komets which was critical to make a deep run. In which the Komets went all the way to the Finals before losing in six games to the Peoria (make them an ECHL franchise gosh darn it.) Rivermen. Nothing quite beats the atmosphere and energy of Playoff hockey, doesnโt matter what the level is. Guys will lay the body on the line to have a date with โThe Cup.โ This yearโs iteration well, letโs be blunt about it, isnโt likely to go the distance. The Fort Wayne Komets, Central Division Regular Season Champs, have a 3-1 strangle hold on the series with chance to clinch the series in tonightโs game in five. In which that would be awesome to see a handshake line in this videoโฆIndy is just a mere bump in the road for the Komets. The real goal is to get back at those darn fish (barring a reverse sweep by the Bison) in the Division Finals. Toledo dumped the Komets out of the Playoffs last year in the 2nd round in painstaking fashion. So, revenge is on the mind of the Komets. Meanwhile, The Indy Fuel got their ticket to the playoffs on the final day of the regular season when the Komets helped The Fuel out by winning in regulation against Kalamazoo in game 72. That 1 point was the gap between Playoffs or not. A Kalamazoo OTL point would have had Indy booking their tee times at the Purgatory Golf Club via tiebreaker. (yes, thatโs a real course in the 317, a fantastic course too, Iโve played it last summer!) The Fuel franchise has never won a playoff series in its inception in 2014. One of, if not, the longest active drought in the ECHL. For that to happen this year would take some great defensive effort and some luck to win it in seven games. (If that were to happen, that would result in a nuclear meltdown of yours truly.) First we got to play the game(s) and see what happens. Not sure whatโs going to happen on the channel next, either more Komet Playoff hockey or I have a little treat in the vault. It is the Month of May, so expect an Indy 500 video(s) this month!
