Stage 5 features just as much climbing as the previous stage, but this is a day for the GC riders and the last opportunity for the pure climbers to really punish their rivals. Like stage 2, it's all about the final climb - Lo Port - 8.5km long at a brutal 8.7%. It’s half the length of Vallter 2000, but it’s steeper and better suited to the explosive climbers. Summit Finish Gives Early Test For Favourites! | Volta A Catalunya 2023 Highlights - Stage 2
The Queen stage of this year’s race awaits. There are two categorised climbs before the lung-busting ascent to Vallter, but they matter little in the grand scheme of things - it's all about the final climb! Vallter 2000 is a 17.7km-long beast with an average gradient of 6.1% and max gradients of 13%. This year’s Race to the Sun draws to a close with a short but explosive stage around Nice. It’s almost a carbon-copy of last year’s final stage, with five categorised climbs (2,284m of total elevation gain) crammed into the space of just 117.1km. The Côte de Tourette-du-Château (17.8km at 4.6%) comes first, before the peloton tackles the brutal Col de la Couillole (16.2km at 7.1%).
