Confirmed: 2 absent for Man Utd vs Burnley + Smalling update
Manchester United are set to host Burnley at Old Trafford this evening as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to make it nine wins from as many games as caretaker manager. The Norwegian guided us to a superb 3-1 win at Arsenal in the FA Cup on Friday night to set up a tie against Chelsea in the fifth round, whilst Burnley were hammered 5-0 at Manchester City on Saturday. Ole has been speaking at his pre-match press conference and has given a team news and injury update ahead of this evening’s match. The good news is that Chris Smalling has been involved in training for a week and is available again for selection. Solskjaer now has four centre-backs available, with Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones all featuring in recent weeks. Ole told MUTV: Scott McTominay played for the under-23s against Paris Saint-Germain on Friday so could be available for the boss as well on Tuesday. However, fellow central midfielder Marouane Fellaini is still sidelined for a couple more weeks and Marcos Rojo still hasn’t returned from his injury either. We head into this evening’s match at Old Trafford three points behind Chelsea, outside of the top four with the Blues travelling to Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Paul Pogba will form part of Manchester United's squad against Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday afternoon after travelling to London on Saturday. The French midfielder was absent from last weekend's FA Cup third-round win over Reading after falling victim on a Jonjo Shelvey horror tackle in the 2-0 win at Newcastle on January 2. But, after meeting up with the Reds squad in Dubai on Monday, Pogba looks set to start against Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs outfit as United look to claw back the gap on the Premier League's top four. James Garner missed United's U23s game on Friday night and his inclusion in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's travelling squad for the trip to the capital explains his absence from the Ricky Sbragia side that lost 3-1 to Fulham at Leigh. Of the four youngsters to have travelled to the Gulf for warm-weather training this week, Garner was the only reserve-team player spotted by photographers to board the train to London. Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes both played for the U23s and weren't spotted, while Mason Greenwood was also unaccounted for. Chris Smalling wasn't present, nor were Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian or Marouane Fellaini, who has been linked with a move to AC Milan. United welcome the Championship outfit to Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon in the third round of the FA Cup. The Red Devils go into the match on the back of four consecutive wins in the league, their best run of the season so far. Pogba has been instrumental in the team’s renaissance but may be missing from the starting XI for tomorrow’s cup clash. “[Marcos] Rojo, [Chris] Smalling - they're out," Solskjaer said during his pre-match press conference when asked to provide an update on his squad. **PREDICT FIVE RESULTS AND WIN £25,000 - FREE TO PLAY HERE** "I'm not sure if Paul's going to be ready; he got a knock against Newcastle. “Hopefully, [Marouane] Fellaini will get through the training session today and we'll be more or less a full squad.” Solskjaer will ring in the changes for the match with The Royals and plans on handing starts to Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, who came off the bench on Wednesday to help United register a 2-0 win over Newcastle. "There'll be a few changes and they get a chance,” the Norwegian said. “Some of them are itching to play. [We will] get Lukaku a start, get Sanchez a start. “That's important for them because they need more game time." United are expected to see off the Championship strugglers with ease given their poor run of form. And Solskjaer admits the minimum requirement for his side is to reach the final of the tournament. "Whatever competition you're in, you want to win when you're at a club like this," he said. "I'm not sure if you expect to win it but it's more or less what you do expect from a club like this and the players we've got."
Sanchez back, Rashford out - Predicted Man Utd line up vs Newcastle
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to make at least one change when Manchester United face Newcastle in the Premier League, and could be forced to make another as he goes in search of a fourth consecutive win. Eric Bailly's red card in United's victory over Bournemouth means Solskjaer will have to bring in a new defender, and Marcus Rashford could be available despite limping off against the Cherries. Solskjaer will also be boosted by the return of Alexis Sanchez, and will hope the Chilean can display a similar improvement in form to Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku. But whether Sanchez is used from the start is a decision that will probably depend on Rashford's fitness, while Lukaku will also hope to feature after a goalscoring cameo on Sunday. In defence, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw will continue at full-back, although Diogo Dalot will be pushing for a return after being dropped for the Bournemouth win. Victor Lindelof has been one of the stand-out players under Solskjaer and Phil Jones is the prime candidate to replace the suspended Bailly alongside him. Should Jones not be available for whatever reason, Solskjaer said he would use Matteo Darmian as a make-shift central defender as Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo are still not ready to return. In front of the defence, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera have quickly formed an effective partnership in Solskajer's new-look formation. But after three games in eight days before the trip to the North East, the caretaker manager may look to one of Fred, Andreas Pereira or Marouane Fellaini to step in. Paul Pogba is in imperious form so it would be counter-productive to drop him, so if Sanchez was to start he would likely come in for Jesse Lingard or Anthony Martial. But after eight games out with a hamstring problem, it would surely be more beneficial to utilise Sanchez from the bench - just as Lukaku was used against Bournemouth. And Solskjaer's final decision is whether to risk Rashford in attack. The striker has started the last three games, but the return of Lukaku and his late goal against Bournemouth means the Belgian should come in for Rashford against Newcastle to see how he will fit into Solskjaer's side. With United looking so dangerous since Jose Mourinho's departure, Solksjaer should avoid making wholesale changes until the FA Cup game against Reading at the weekend.
