How Kevin Magnussen landed a shock F1 return with Haas for 2022
Kevin Magnussen looked to be firmly in the camp of ‘exiled F1 driver’ after he lost his drive at the end of 2020 because Haas needed paying drivers. But with Nikita Mazepin axed between the 2022 pre-season tests, Haas needed a replacement. And it has turned to the same driver it had to move aside for the Russian just over a year ago. The first major fallout from Haas F1's split with Nikita Mazepin
The Haas Formula 1 team has named a temporary substitute for ousted driver Nikita Mazepin but the fallout from that split is only just getting started. Haas has terminated its contracts with Russian driver Mazepin and former title sponsor Uralkali in the wake of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine. Reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi will take part in the final pre-season test in Bahrain this week, but the team still needs to decide who will take the seat for the rest of the 2022 season. Which teams will bring big updates for the Bahrain F1 test?
Formula 1’s second pre-season test kicks off in Bahrain on Thursday and offers the 10 teams their final opportunity to fettle their cars ahead of the first race of the season. Although the test starts after a gap of just 12 days since Barcelona, every team will have some new parts and there’s a possibility that we will see some big changes to some of the cars. But will these changes be profound enough to be considered a b-spec, or even perhaps a new car? With a rapid rate of improvement expected from these brand new cars, the Bahrain test will be the first step in a development war that will rage throughout the season. Max Verstappen’s massive new Red Bull F1 deal explained
Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has a monster new Red Bull Racing contract that is the longest on the grid and could well be the most valuable. After winning the 2021 title in dramatic circumstances in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen declared there’s no reason to change teams and that he wanted to stay with Red Bull forever.
