8 world champions who would've been rejected under F1's flawed superlicence rules

A superlicence is a driver’s ticket to ride in Formula 1. As Colton Herta recently discovered, even if you have the offer of a race seat, without the right paperwork you cannot compete in F1. Currently, to qualify for an FIA Formula 1 Driver Super Licence – to use its official name – you must accumulate 40 points based on your achievements in three of the past four years. As a look back through Formula 1 history reveals, there are eight world champions who would likely have failed in their bids for a superlicence were the current system in place. #F1 #Formula1 #superlicence Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

The drivers fighting for the remaining 2023 F1 seats
The drivers fighting for the remaining 2023 F1 seats

The 2023 driver market has offered a Formula 1 silly season for the ages - and it’s still not over. Three teams have seats to fill for next season and, surprisingly at this stage of the year, there are quite a few drivers still in play. We see Alpine, AlphaTauri, Haas and Williams as the teams with vacancies. And the list of drivers in play include race winners Pierre Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo, likely Haas refugee Mick Schumacher, out-of-work drivers Antonio Giovinazzi and Nico Hulkenberg and rookies such as Nyck de Vries, Jack Doohan and Logan Sargeant. Clearly, there are a lot of pieces to the jigsaw, which we’ll be working through in this video - so keep watching until the end, to see what we think the final picture’s going to look like. #F1 #F1news #F12023 Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Why Daniel Ricciardo faces a 2023 F1 move Lewis Hamilton says he's too good for
Why Daniel Ricciardo faces a 2023 F1 move Lewis Hamilton says he's too good for

Three weeks on from McLaren’s bombshell announcement that Daniel Ricciardo will be dropped at the end of the season despite having a contract for 2023, the eight-times grand prix winner is still without a job for next year. But could Ricciardo take a role Lewis Hamilton says he is too good for? That’s a question Ricciardo must ask himself as he considers whether to pursue a path usually taken by those at the start of their Formula 1 career and take a reserve driver role? It’s hard to imagine a driver who has been an F1 star for the past decade being willing to sit on the sidelines and it’s unlikely Ricciardo would see himself doing that. Unless, that is, it’s with a team that might just offer him a pathway back to the front of the F1 grid. So who better than Mercedes, the pre-eminent F1 team of the past decade? #F1 #DanielRicciardo #Mercedes Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Our verdict on the Red Bull AlphaTauri Dutch GP F1 conspiracy theory
Our verdict on the Red Bull AlphaTauri Dutch GP F1 conspiracy theory

Mercedes found itself in the thick of a fight for victory properly for the first time in 2022 at the Dutch Grand Prix, and almost inevitably that resulted in a Red Bull-related controversy flying around after the race. Mercedes’ gamble on a one-stop strategy at Zandvoort was on course to leave Lewis Hamilton in the lead of the race after Max Verstappen’s second scheduled pitstop. But Verstappen was able to retain the lead thanks to a well-timed virtual safety car period, which was called when Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri stopped on track for a second time. The confusion around Tsunoda’s problem, and a less-than-convincing explanation from the Japanese driver afterwards, prompted wild theories that Red Bull’s second team had done its big sibling a favour. #F1 #DutchGP #RedBull READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/what-we-know-about-tsunodas-controversial-dutch-gp-exit/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Max Verstappen’s F1 2022 limitation that Red Bull can’t fix
Max Verstappen’s F1 2022 limitation that Red Bull can’t fix

Max Verstappen is breezing to a second straight Formula 1 title despite his car having a problem Red Bull can’t easily fix. F1’s new 2022 technical rules have created cars that do not naturally blend with the style that Verstappen was able to use to such effect with the high-rake Red Bulls that were developed over the previous rules cycle. It might not look like it’s holding Verstappen back that much, with eight victories so far and an 80-point lead in the championship. But this season still falls short of his impossibly high standards because Red Bull hasn’t quite got its 2022 car the way he wants it. #F1 #MaxVerstappen #RedBull Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

The incredible F1 mess Alpine is in trying to replace Fernando Alonso with Oscar Piastri
The incredible F1 mess Alpine is in trying to replace Fernando Alonso with Oscar Piastri

Since Alpine unexpectedly lost Fernando Alonso to Aston Martin for 2023 earlier this week, things have got even worse for the team. It announced reserve driver Oscar Piastri as Alonso’ replacement the following day - but amazingly, Piastri said this isn’t true! Alonso stunned Alpine by telling his current team he would finalise a new contract with them, while secretly doing a deal to join Aston Martin. And now Alpine has been shocked again, with Piastri’s attempt to snub his own promotion, amid rumours he is trying to join McLaren. #F1news #Alpine #OscarPiastri READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/alpine-adamant-it-has-legal-right-to-piastri-so-what-next/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Why Sebastian Vettel is retiring from F1 and who could replace him

Sebastian Vettel shocked the F1 world on Thursday when he announced he will retire at the end of 2022. The four-time world champion was coming to the end of his initial two-year deal with Aston Martin at the end of this year. The team made clear it wanted him to stay on for longer, and while Vettel had hinted he was open to that, he has decided not to continue. So why has Vettel decided to retire, what will this do to the F1 driver market, and how should we remember his career once he hangs up his helmet for the last time? #SebastianVettel #AstonMartin #F1 READ OUR VERDICT https://the-race.com/formula-1/our-verdict-on-sebastian-vettels-retirement-and-his-f1-legacy/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Our verdict on the Charles Leclerc French GP crash conspiracy theory
Our verdict on the Charles Leclerc French GP crash conspiracy theory

Charles Leclerc’s brief reference to a problem with the throttle in his Ferrari led to wild and unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about his crash out of the lead of the French Grand Prix. Leclerc threw away a potential win at Paul Ricard when he spun 360 degrees before nosing into the wall at the long Beausset right-hander. He took the blame for the mistake post-race and was highly critical of himself, but some F1 fans and pundits suggested there was more to the incident than met the eye. #F1 #FrenchGP #CharlesLeclerc READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/mark-hughes-leclerc-was-thwarted-by-root-of-ferraris-advantage/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
