Redick offered an extended apology Sunday night after a video circulated where he appeared to use a racial slur while wishing Chinese fans a happy new year. Redick said earlier in the day he was "tongue tied" during the segment.  Redick's updated explanation said he was trying to record a video message and mumbled his response and was then unaware of how it sounded. "Had I known it sounded anything like that, I would've been mortified and recorded the greeting over again," he wrote on Twitter. "I ask your forgiveness. This should be a time of celebration. I am so sorry for upsetting anyone." Please read. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/phL6v7Voeb— JJ Redick (@JJRedick) February 19, 2018The video, which was produced by Chinese media company Tencent, shows numerous NBA players but Redick seems to slip-up when his part is featured. "Clearly I was tongue tied as the word I purportedly said is not in my vocabulary," he wrote on Twitter earlier on Sunday. "I'm disappointed that anyone would think I would use that word. I love and respect our friends in China."Just saw a video that is being circulated of me wishing a happy new year to NBA fans in China.Clearly I was tongue tied, as the word I purportedly said is not in my vocabulary.
