Deep Dasgupta praises Kuldeep Sen for showing good temperament in last over against Marcus Stoinis
Rajasthan Royals managed to defend 165 against Lucknow Super Giants despite the late scare from Marcus Stoinis, thanks to an excellent final over from Kuldeep Sen on his IPL debut. Needing 15 to win in the final over, Stoinis was looking to take the game away from Rajasthan with some thunderous hitting in the last few overs and the youngster Sen was under huge pressure to deliver in his very first game. Sen replaced Navdeep Saini in the playing XI and skipper Sanju Samson had bowled out all his premier fast bowlers before the 20th over. Samson’s decision to back the youngster paid off as Sen kept a calm head and won his side the game by three runs. With Lasith Malinga as the bowling coach for the Royals, Sen will only get better from here and his ability to clock speeds above 140 kmph consistently will be an added bonus. In the last over, Avesh Khan took a single off the very first delivery. Sen bowled two quick full deliveries which were in the slot for Stoinis to capitalise, however, he was done by the pace of the 25-year-old. Stoinis desperately needed a boundary with 14 needed off three deliveries, but he missed another full delivery outside off as Sen sealed the deal for the Royals. The speedster finished with 1 for 35. It must be noted that KKR were on a roll before this clash, clinching three of their first four games. With Shaw smashing one boundary after another, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer was left clueless over the field placements. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja had big ambitions to resume the India-Pakistan rivalry through a four-nation tournament but the idea has been turned down by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Parthiv reckons the wicketkeeper-batter can lay a solid foundation, allowing the middle and lower-order batters to berserk in the end overs. Mumbai Indians (MI) faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 14th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The five-time champions were desperate for two points and were putting in a very good effort to defend 161 runs with the ball. Everything was going to plan for Rohit Sharma and his troops. Perhaps they were ahead in the game when Tymal Mills got the better of Andre Russell with KKR still needing 61 runs to win in less than seven overs. But what followed later was absolute carnage. Pat Cummins, playing his first game of the season, came out to bat at seven and just turned the game on its head. He was probably taking revenge of the pasting he got with the ball, having conceded 49 runs off his four-over spell. But this hitting was something different. He took on MI’s best bowler Jasprit Bumrah as well when he was probably brought on to dismiss Venkatesh Iyer, the only recognised KKR batter left in the middle. Well, Cummins had other ideas as he hit him for a six and a four to bring the equation down to 35 runs off last five overs. And then happened the unthinkable. Daniel Sams kept on bowling and Pat Cummins kept on hitting the ball out of the ground. The latter smashed 35 runs in one over to literally end the game with four overs to spare. It was some mad hitting and clearly MI skipper Rohit Sharma was not happy with the execution of plans in the middle. Rather his frustration was visible ahead of the post-match presentation ceremony speaking as a losing captain where he vented his frustration. He wasn’t able to hear the question from Danny Morrison, one of the commentators, and got irritated asking to increase the volume. ‘Awaaz badhao yaar uska,” Rohit Sharma was heard saying. However, the man calmed himself down later to answer some questions post the loss.
