The yellow brigade has roped in the New Zealand duo of Daryll Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra while welcoming back Shardul Thakur who is coming on the back of some brilliant bowling performance in the Ranji Trophy. On the other hand, The Men in Blue had traded Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans (GT) and had without second thought appointed him as the new captain with an eye to the future. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) over the years have had a roller-coaster run in the IPL, Barring the lone championship victory in 2016, the Hyderabad-based franchise has been unpredictable and has either finished in the top four or in the bottom in their decade of existence. In this year’s auction, GT bagged all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai who was a standout for Afghanistan in the 2023 50-over World Cup held in India, which could be a like-for-like replacement for Hardik Pandya. Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will also be in the mix, but it would be interesting how the returning Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul would go about their ways as this IPL edition would be an audition for a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) face the difficult task of replicating the success of their women’s team, which won the WPL 2024 title last Sunday. RCB might boast a star-studded line-up including the likes of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glen Maxwell but their bowling department remains an issue. Punjab Kings (PBKS) also head into the tournament with a lot of issues that needed to be sorted out at the IPL 2024 auction.
