Liverpool's losing run continued as rivals Everton earned a rare Merseyside derby victory with a 2-0 result at Anfield on Saturday. Goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson in each half were enough for Everton to secure their first derby victory at Anfield since 1999. The result means that Liverpool suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the league and fourth in a row at home. Liverpool's dismal day was compounded when they lost captain Jordan Henderson to injury in the first-half Everton go level on points with Liverpool with both teams three points off the top four places but Everton have a game in hand. "I am very pleased for the club and the supporters," Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti told Sky Sports postmatch. "I hope for sure that they are going to celebrate tonight. It was a good performance. A lot of fight and spirit. I am really happy." Everton took the lead inside three minutes when James Rodriguez played a through ball to Richarlison who produced an emphatic finish. Liverpool responded well and forced Jordan Pickford into two superb saves from Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold respectively. The Liverpool captain then limped off just before the half an hour mark with an injury and was replaced with youngster Nathaniel Phillips. Moments after the substitution, Everton had a great chance to double their lead but Seamus Coleman's close-range header was saved by Alisson. The hosts were livelier in the second half with Sadio Mane heading two crosses over the bar and then having a shot brilliantly blocked by Michael Keane. Just before 70 minutes, Mohamed Salah was denied from close-range by another great Pickford save. With eight minutes remaining, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was brought down by Alexander-Arnold inside the box and Sigurdsson converted the penalty to seal the win. Everton's long-serving skipper Coleman was delighted to have finally tasted success at Anfield. "It's an amazing feeling, after coming here all those years and letting ourselves and more importantly letting the blue side of the city down," he said. "It's been hard. We can try and brush it off but when you have lived in the city for 10 years it has been difficult to take. "I'm fed up with coming out with the same cliches after losing. I'd thank the manager for the way he set us up and the players put in an unbelievable shift. That was against the champions, so we are delighted." After thinking about lost to Wolves The Blues fell to a 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday to cast doubt over their title aspirations and I have not been convinced by summer signing Timo Werner. I kindly suggested that Chelsea's Timo Werner should be dropped by Frank Lampard - and has urged the forward to work on his finishing. The £52m summer signing from RB Leipzig has shown signs of promise in a Blues shirt, but suffered a frustrating night in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday. The German has failed to score for the club since netting in the 4-1 win against Sheffield United last month, and he struggled to make an impact again against Wolves. I believe Werner is the man who could make way for another player over the Christmas period. "I think Werner when he comes in off that left, he’s very, very dangerous, "I just think he just needs to brush up on his finishing, but he’s a young striker and he will do that. "So I’ve got no doubts he’ll be a top player for Chelsea but there are options now and he [Lampard] needs to move it around. "Ziyech coming back in, freshen it up at some point. Take Werner out, bring him back in. "It’s a marathon to win a title usually, and certainly this year. You’ve got to use your whole squad. So Werner maybe comes out, bring the other lads back in." Nevertheless, I do think both Werner and fellow big-money signing Kai Havertz have a big future at Stamford Bridge despite their somewhat subdued starts to live in the Premier League. "You can compare him (Werner) with other big foreign imports, sometimes they come to this league – certainly in these situations, you have to understand it might take time for them to settle. "I think for him and Havertz it has as well. Werner has probably settled in a little bit quicker. They are two top players, I know because you see the glimpses. "But I have no doubt Werner and Havertz will be massive players for Chelsea." The Blues boss also warned his players they must rediscover the form which sent them on a nine-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.
