He went through shootaround and he should be good to go, but weāll let him warm up and confirm after that. Should be good to go.ā Ā ON THE DECISION TO FIRST STARTĀ ALEN SMAILAGIÄ IN SANTA CRUZ:Ā āHe just needs to play. He missed all of training camp. I think he got hurt on the second day of training camp. He plays the one position that we actually have plenty of depth, so it makes a lot more sense to start in Santa Cruz and work his way into shape and get his legs underneath him.ā Ā ON THE LOOMING ROSTER DECISION WITH KY BOWMANāS TWO-WAY CONTRACT: āItās pretty early on that front. The good thing with the Two-Way contract is that it is binding for the year. If we run out of days, which we probably will at some point, weāll have him in Santa Cruz and we can bring him back up when the Santa Cruz season ends and then we would have his rights through restricted free agency this summer. We are in a relatively good position in terms of his future, but we would like to have him on the floor here playing for us because heās been so effective. Thatās going to be tricky just because of the hard cap. Right now we are more concerned with counting his days then we are with anything else. Weāll try to be careful on this trip. If we have any light practices we will probably hold him out, so we donāt use a day. That way we can buy a few days here and there. Sometimes things have a way of working out that you donāt foresee and maybe that will happen. I donāt know.ā Ā ON KLAY THOMPSONāS NBA RECORD 14TH THREE AGAINST THE BULLS LAST SEASON: āI remember the floodgates opened up because he had been been really struggling before that game. A few times since I've been here, heās started out slowly in the season and then obviously he always turns it around. That was the game that sort of opened everything up for him. One thing that got lost was that Alfonzo McKinnie had a career high in front of his whole family just down the street from his house basically. I also remember Klayās 14th three was very uncomfortable. We had a big lead in the third and he was searching, launching and all his teammates wanted him to get it. It was one of those uncomfortable moments as a coach. You want your player to get a record, but donāt want to do it the wrong thing. It was a little dicey. I texted Fred Hoiberg after the game and he was great. I was relieved when Klay made the last one. Just yet another incredible shooting night from Klay. UPBASKETBALL TRAINING FACILITY, BURLINGAME, CA ā So, Stephen Curry spent last night ā while the rest of the Golden State Warriors organization was busy enjoying Stevie Wonder at Chase Center ā at Packie Turnerās āUPBasketballā training facility on the Peninsula. Also in attendance: Warriors rookies Jordan Poole and Omari Spellman, both of whom have already spent time at UPB the last few weeks per their Instagram posts, as well as Santa Cruz Warriors two-way player Ky Bowman plus Juan Toscano-Anderson, who has a training camp invite. Oh, and Stephās brother Seth Curry, who according to my sources is getting married real soon, like very possibly this weekend. To Callie Rivers, by the way. Yes, THAT Rivers, i.e., Austin Rivers (Callieās brother), son of Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers. In case you didnāt know. One more aside: Have you noticed the lack of wedding video clips this summer? Looks like NBA players are trying hard not to let stuff out. Although we do have some views from Michelle Wie and Jonnie Westās (4k views!) and DeMarcus Cousinsā (18k views!). There was nary a sight of Steph and Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala at Westās or Shaun Livingston at Boogieās ā we got them all in our videos, but not much at all. But I digress. Thereās a reason why there was only a single IG story clip and all the photos of Stephās feet were cropped.
