The St Lucia Zouks smashed the record for the lowest total ever defended in Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL), as Kesrick Williams and the spinners strangled an anxious Barbados Tridents batting lineup to leave Jason Holder’s men reeling. The Tridents, and in particular Hayden Walsh, were outstanding with the ball to skittle the Zouks, but manage to lose despite not even being bowled out. Based on their records in the regular season, Lakers 52-19 and Trail Blazers 35-39, most people would think that the Lakers will steamroll the Blazers in this round-one match up, but it is way more complicated than that! (video editor, please add some footage of the Blazers dominating in the bubble). The Trail Blazers have been one of the stand-out teams in the bubble winning 6 of their eight seeding games, while the Lakers have looked a shadow of themselves managing only three victories in their eight games. The bubble has not been kind to the Lakers so far! They seem demotivated, and King James, at times, looks dejected! ……This has got us thinking……Can the Trail Blazers beat the Lakers in the first round? There is a real chance for them to create one of the biggest upsets in recent basketball history. One of the reasons why the Blazers are such a threat to the Lakers is momentum. They have been playing well as a team, led by their super-motivated Point Guard Damian Lillard, supported by CJ McCollum, Zach Collins, and Jusuf Nurkic. The team oozes confidence when they are on the court and have the belief that they can come out on top in tight games against any opponent! Of the six games that they won in the bubble, four was by a margin of 5 or fewer points, which shows that the Blazers can keep their composure and close games out. On the other hand, the Lakers have no momentum coming into the playoffs and will need to get back to some semblance of their top game to overcome the Blazers. This is the perfect situation for an upset! What is also concerning is the offensive depth of the Lakers; apart from Lebron and Anthony Davies, they do not have a dynamic offensive player that can score goals and make plays. They also have a dismal 3-point record as a team, which is not at all inspiring! What will they do if they lose Anthony Davis or Lebron James for several minutes in a game or even worse if either one has to sit out a game? Don’t say it…. this would be disastrous! In addition to this, their top-quality defensive unit has been dealt a blow with the absence of the outstanding Avery Bradley. Guarding the outstanding Lillard and CJ McCollum might prove to be a nightmare for the Lakers since Lebron is the only player who is good enough to effectively guard one of these two players. The other will likely have space to create dangerous offensive plays for the Trail Blazers. So, with all the attacking and defensive frailties that the Lakers have displayed so far in the bubble, the Blazers should win this first-round playoff series?.......Ahh…NO and NO! We have to realize that the Lakers were not at all motivated in the seeding games…. they had nothing to play for! They had already secured the Number 1 seed in the West and literally were just playing these games because they had to. Now they have an NBA title to win and will be totally switched on and motivated for the playoffs. Lebron James has never gone out in the first round of the playoffs in his 17-year career, and despite the weird nature of the bubble, we do not see this happening this year! Lebron will be supported by Anthony Davis, who is anxious to win a first NBA title himself! The Blazers will definitely be competitive and will probably win a couple of games, but we do not see this series going past the 6th game before the Lakers wrap it up. A day after the MLS is Back Tournament final is played, the two teams who didn't get to compete in Orlando square off in Frisco as FC Dallas host Nashville SC in the first of back-to-back games starting Wednesday night. Dallas and Nashville left Orlando without playing a game due to several positive COVID-19 tests in each team. And after watching the competition from home, both clubs will be anxious to resume their seasons which paused in early March due to the global pandemic.
Who'd a thunk it? Baylor, just two years removed from a 1 win season, is undefeated and playing for a Championship Game clinching win against one loss Oklahoma? Oklahoma, however, is not too anxious to relinquish their Big 12 King of the Hill status. Jalen Hurts will be leading the Sooners at quarterback but he'll be missing his biggest weapon, WR Ceedee Lamb. For Baylor's Charlie Brewer, this is the biggest game he's ever played in but with his quarterback lineage, perhaps it won't be a problem? It's Baylor and Oklahoma on the banks of the Brazos for waht could be a Championship Game preview so sit back, relax, and enjoy an incredibly exciting game.
