Barça scored early and played a great first half but couldn’t add a second goal and had to endure an epic struggle against a great Sociedad side, who were as good and tough to play against as advertised in the second half. But the Blaugrana showed huge character and found a way to pick up three massive points to bounce back from two straight defeats and boost their confidence with a huge win at one of the toughest grounds in the country. FIRST HALF The first 45 minutes were played at a very high level by both teams, who pressed each other high up the pitch and defended with a lot of intensity. There was very little space for either side when they had the ball, and there very few long sequences of possession because the fierce defending from the two sides caused a lot of turnovers and counter-attacks. Barcelona picked up all three points at Reale Arena behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 11th minute goal, but it came at a heavy price. The Blaugrana defense was torn to shreds in the process, with the entire back line of Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Dani Alves, and Ronald Araujo all picking up injuries throughout the 90 minutes. Alba was the only one who made it the full 90 minutes, with the other three withdrawn at various points of the second half.
