Red Bull Reveal When They Will Decide “Verstappen's Teammate”
Red Bull are yet to announce who will drive for them alongside Max Verstappen next year. Some have suggested that current driver Alex Albon will continue while others are batting for Sergio Perez to replace Albon. Similarly, their sister team AlphaTauri is yet to announce their second driver for next season. Team principal Christian Horner and Advisor Helmut Marko have now offered some clarity. Horner started by detailing the approach they will take “Obviously, we have a huge amount of data now. We have all the knowledge across the various circuits that we have done. We’ll sit down, go through that and come to the right conclusion” Alex Albon finished in a respectable fourth place in the final race that Verstappen won. Horner spoke about Albon’s performance and explained how it helped the team out in terms of strategy “It’s certainly what we were expecting to see because it’s the only way in which you can put Mercedes under pressure. If for example, they split the strategy, then we could’ve been very exposed. Certainly, in the end of the race, Alex was able to close on them” Marko added to Horner’s statement “We are now going to analyse all the data and decide before Christmas who will be Verstappen's teammate” He also offered some more clarity regarding the situation at AlphaTauri “On Wednesday we will announce who will drive for AlphaTauri” Fast Feed Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton thinks that they’ve “obviously got a fight on” their “hands next year” as far as Red Bull are concerned He added that “without a doubt, these guys are going to be strong, as this car is next year's car pretty much” He further is “excited for that challenge, and that battle that” they “hopefully will get” Max Verstappen thinks that “for the whole team it's a boost and motivation to go into the winter like this” Future McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo feels that the uneventful race in Abu Dhabi “is a shame because it is such a great venue” He added that he certainly does “not want to talk the place down because” he wants “to keep coming back here because it is amazing” He further feels that maybe they “could play around with the layouts” as “unfortunately on Sunday it is tricky, it is sometimes a bit grim from an entertainment point of view” Dutch Grand Prix Sporting Director, Jan Lammers has suggested that “if they had wanted to replace Albon, Red Bull would have already announced it” He further thinks that “if it is going to be changed, it will be [Sergio] Perez. He seems to have the best chances at the moment” Christian Horner has reiterated that the possibility of Red Bull taking over Honda’s engine operations after 2021 “can only be done cost-effectively if the current engine regulations are frozen after that year” He added that “the latest signals in that direction are positive” and that he is “not just referring to the statements from Ferrari and Mercedes, which are benevolent” He revealed that they “are also currently holding constructive talks with the owners of the sport” Should the Abu Dhabi layout be changed?
