Sacramento State Sets #BigSkySB Records in Win Over Southern Utah

OGDEN, Utah (May 13, 2016) – No. 2 seed Sacramento State rolled to a 17-0 win over No. 5 seed Southern Utah in the second elimination game the 2016 Big Sky Conference Softball Championship presented by Red Lion® Hotels. Sacramento State’s 17 runs were the most scored by a team in a Big Sky tournament game and the Hornets’ 22 hits set a new Big Sky and school record. The Hornets put up four runs in the top of the first, two of which were brought home thanks to a double by Kortney Solis. Sac State added a run in the second but it was the third inning where the floodgates started to open. The Hornets put up five runs in the third with Natalie Alas scoring a run and knocking in one of her two RBIs on the day. Sasha Margulies also posted her second sacrifice RBI in the third. The Hornets plated seven more runs in the top of the fourth to put the game well out of reach. Jessica Ravetti set a new Big Sky tournament record with five RBIs in the win. She finished the game with three hits in five at-bats and scored two runs. Celina Matthias pitched four innings of shutout softball and allowed just three hits.
