Hearts Of Oak secured their first win of the season courtesy of a second half strike from Gladson Awako. The Phobians bounce back to a winning style to boost their title defence bid after a nightmare in Africa. Elmina Sharks in the early stages of the game had a decent chance through Justice Mensah but the forward wasted the opportunity to give the home side an early lead. Thhe first half ended in a goalless draw. Coach Samuel Boadu left the duggout as the tactican was rushed to a hospital due to illness with Assistant coach Hamza Obeng leading the team in the second half. A quick tactical change by Hamza saw the Phobians introduce Gladson Awako and Kofi Kodzi to replace Enock Asubonteng and Isaac Mensah respectively on the 65th minute. The former Great Olympics captain didn’t take long to announce his presence, a neatly timed control from a pass from Salifu Ibrahim saw the experienced midfielder lashed home to break the deadlock of the game. Goalkeeper Richard Attah brilliantly saved the Phobians in the closing stages of the game denying James Agbenyo in a one-on-one situation. The Rainbow Boys finished the game with 10 men after midfielder Salifu Ibrahim was a shown a second yellow card for a nasty tackle .
