Arsenal boss Unai Emery raised the stakes in his stand-off with Mesut Ozil by telling the German to prove he’s worth the mega deal the club handed him earlier this year. The German was left out of Arsenal’s squad to face Tottenham on Wednesday for ‘tactical’ reasons and was a substitute in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Southampton. Ozil signed a new long-term deal at the club last February and became the highest paid player in the Gunners’ history with wages of around £350,000-a-week. The 30-year-old is expected to return to the squad to face Burnely on Saturday but Emery says he will only pick players that are fully committed. ‘In some matches, we need different things tactically and individually,’ said Emery. ‘It’s not only for him. For me, the player’s salary is not important. Every player, I want to give them the same conversation or the same chance to play or not play. ‘The most important thing for me is the commitment. If you are asking if this is different because one is with more salary and the other is less salary, for me it’s the same. ‘The most important thing for me is to be OK training every day with good behaviour and good commitment and giving us their quality. ‘I don’t think about how they are going to think outside (of the club). I can explain clearly my decision why.
