McLaren’s two drivers are having contrasting seasons so far. Lando Norris is fourth in the championship and has already scored three podiums in the first 9 races. Ricciardo started off by explaining how he expected more as quoted by Motorsport “Did I expect more? Absolutely. But I think if every weekend I go into it now expecting to be quicker than Lando, or whatever it is, I'm probably just going to end up resenting the sport, because clearly it's going to take a bit more” He admitted that there is something missing “Clearly there's something that is missing. I feel good in the car, especially the last three weeks, it's felt better” He then looked at his teammate’s performance this season “I don't want to say, what's the word, wave the white flag, or succumb to whatever it is, I'm just going to not really focus or lose too much energy on that, and just accept that he's driving very well. The aim is to obviously get closer, and help the team out as well” McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl, meanwhile, confirmed that there is a feeling of disappointment on both sides while speaking to RTL "I don't think he imagined it would be so difficult to change teams. He's disappointed, so are we. Because we thought it would be faster” He signed off by being confident that Ricciardo can still turn it around “I am still convinced that at some point it will click with him” Fast Feed Williams’ George Russell is “really pleased that Lewis is staying in the sport. He's clearly a global superstar and is still driving at an exceptional level” “Personally [he wants] to compete against the best drivers in the world and [he honestly thinks they] have a really good group of drivers on the grid at the moment who deserve to be here” Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has stated that “Daniel [Ricciardo] was very good but I raced against him at a time when I was a bit younger and inexperienced myself” “That's why I can't really compare him to Sergio Perez”, Max added He further specified that his “relationship with Perez is excellent and things are going extremely well with the team. [They] are now leading the title race and [he hopes they] can continue to do so this year” AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly has reiterated that there is “interest [from other teams]; I’m trying my best, showing my potential, giving my best with AlphaTauri” He hopes that “this year [they] can get the best result in the team championship for the team, the best ever since the team joined in Formula 1” “That’s [his] goal personally and then yes, [he’ll] see going forward what are the most attractive options” Williams CEO Jost Capito is “very disappointed [but he’s] very happy that everybody is disappointed because four weeks ago everybody would have triumphed for 11th place” Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has explained that Max Verstappen is just “a DNF away. And [Lewis Hamilton is] in the hunt again” “If we look at Baku and the potential, and look at the other races, overall, we need to up our game, make less mistakes, and continue to understand the car better and then we are massively in the hunt”, Wolff suggested F1’s managing director Ross Brawn is “nervous, but that's normal. [He thinks they've] put a lot of work into organising sprint qualifying, so there's a good chance of success” “[They] need to get the fans involved and make sure [they] have a race that really fascinates them. [He thinks] that will work, but [they] won't know until [they] get there” “The best thing that can happen is that sprint qualifying becomes part of a Grand Prix weekend. Maybe not every race, but we want to stress that we want to extend the weekend”, he added Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz feels that they “are working together as a team and pushing as hard as [they] can to move the team forward” “There will be races where Charles [Leclerc] is clearly better and other races where I have to pass him, like I did in Portimao’”, Sainz added Do you think the sprint qualifying will be a success?
