Galle Gladiators have qualified for the finals of the Lanka Premier League Cricket Tournament.In the final round of the tournament, they defeated the mighty Jaffna Kings by 64 runs in the qualifier 1 match held on Sunday (19) night.It was also the third time the Jaffna Kings had lost to the Gladiators this seasonsThis is the second time in a row that the Galle team has qualified for the finals of the LPL.Galle Gladiators scored 189 runs for the loss of five wickets at the invitation of Jaffna Kings skipper Thisara Perera.Kusal Mendis and Danushka Goonetileke put on 121 runs for the opening wicket, the best partnership for any wicket this season.It is also the best first-wicket partnership in LPL history. It was also the second-best partnership for any wicket in LPL history. Kusal Mendis scored 85 off 53 balls with 4 sixes and 7 fours. He has scored 288 runs this season and has become the highest scorer in the tournament. Dhanushka Goonetileke scored 55 while skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 25 off 15 balls with three sixes. Nuwan Thushara took 5 wickets for 13 runs. It was the second best bowling performance by a bowler this season. The Jaffna Kings will take on the Dambulla Giants on Tuesday (21) in the third match of the finals, Qualifier 2. The winning team will face Galle Gladiators in the final on the 23rd.
