1991 NLCS Game 6 Highlights | Atlanta Braves vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

These are the highlights for Game 6 of the 1991 National League Championship Series. After a 1-0 victory for the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 5, the Pirates have taken a commanding 3-2 advantage in this series. The Pirates are now one win away from going to the World Series for the first time since 1979. The Atlanta Braves now are in a 3-2 deficit, and are trying to win Game 6 in order to get to their ace John Smoltz on the mound for game 7. The Pittsburgh Pirates have Doug Drabek on the mound, who pitched well in game 1 and was the winning pitcher in that game. The Pirates are asking Doug Drabek to give a magnificent performance in order to clinch the National League Pennant in game 6. Jim Leyland, the Pirates manager, mentioned prior to the game that he was “concerned” for game 6, as a loss in game 6 would have to mean that they would have to beat John Smoltz in game 7. The Atlanta Braves have Steve Avery on the mound, who was the winning pitcher in game 2 and pitched dominantly in that game. The Braves want him to pitch another gem in order to get to John Smoltz for game 7. In game 6, both Steve Avery and Doug Drabek face off in a tremendous pitchers duel. In a close, tense, and dramatic game, these two teams give it their all in this pivotal game of the 1991 National League Championship Series.
