Highlights Day 2 - 27th Winter Universiade, Strbske Pleso/Osrblie, Slovakia

STRBSKE PLESO – Today, 26 January, the second day two of competitions took place in Strbske Pleso with the sprint for mixed teams and the first competition of the Nordic Combined (Gundersen Individual) was held. For this second sprint competition, the Russian team marked another double victory. Indeed, Anton Gafarov, a student at the Ural Institute of Law and Commerce and Svetlana Nikolaeva, student in Physical Education at the University of Smolensk won gold ahead of another Russian couple composed of Raul Shakirzianov and Anna Povoliaeva. Finally, the Czech pair composed of Jan Srail and Karolina Grohova finished in third place in this breathless race. the first competition of the Nordic Combined (Gundersen Individual) was held Third after the jump event on the 100m hill, Adam Cieslar (POL) surprised everyone (starting with himself) by winning brilliantly during the 10km cross-country ski race. “I felt particularly strong today and the conditions were perfect, despite the fog. At the end of the cross country race I gave everything and am amazed myself. I never reached such a level before”, Adam commented. An excellent result for this 22-year old Physical Education student from the University of Warsaw. His compatriot Sczepan Kupczak also mounted the podium (bronze) confirming all the good that we thought of this Polish Nordic combined team in full revival.
